Lando is still doing lando things, easily beat Riccardo in qualifying, their over all pace actually looked pretty close. I’d like to see lando in a top team. Gasly has had some issues again, seems he signed a new contract and started to suck.

Who would you want to see him with?

Honestly, I think he's perfectly suited for McLaren for now - can't see him at RBR, Ferrari, or Merc, though if Lulu retires a George/Lando pairing would be spicy (which is exactly why I can't see it happening).

re: Russell: Something funky happened to the VCS cause theres no way he should get that much of an advantage during the race. FIA confirmed there was a glitch somewhere. Russell was already racing Checo even before the end of the VSC, and it thats the case then so much for 'neutralizing' the race.

re: Leclerc: He screwed up, simple as that, and he owned it. I gotta give him huge credit for taking responsibility but end of the day he is right, if he keeps screwing up he doesnt deserve to be champ. Hopefully a learning opportunity, but he was clearly devastated after he got out of the car, looked like he was crying with marshals consoling him.

re: France: what a boring track. Hopefully they get rid of it for something a bit more old school, though i doubt it

Yea I think when he smashed into the barriers, it got messed up enough that the throttle got stuck. Then his race engineer said something like car is a no longer going to be operational and then he screamed out the 'nooooo'. But yea gutted for him, more so because he's the only one who's got best chance at stopping maxipad but also because every time he's doing well something or someone fucks him over. Hopefully he can stop making these mistakes because at this level that is what differentiates drivers and champions.

Be interesting to see if anything came of this. But since VSC is just based on an average lap time, it seemed like he was just slowing down and increasing distance between him and Checo, and then speeding up near the end of the lap to get an acceleration jump on him while maintaining his lap delta.

There was a problem with the VSC end process. You get a VSC ending message, then between 10-15s track green comes up to go, with a 5 second variable to require reaction time. Drivers have figured out you can game it a bit by playing with the deltas to get a bigger gap against the following car. That green track message never came so everyone fucked up their deltas. Race director fired up backup system. A 2nd VSC ending message came up a minute later while drivers were confused going and slowing to meet delta. Russell had fixed his delta, Perez didn’t and had to slow down. While he was slowing down, track green came up and Russell took off hence the massive speed differential.

Every driver got the same message. Perez was expecting the next message to be track green and was playing around with the gap to try to get an advantage on Russell. Russell was trying to follow Perez to not get too left behind. Then 2nd VSC message came up, which caught Perez on the wrong side of delta, and Russell on the right side.

That’s what I believe happened based on watching the 2 in cars.

Yep that tracks. Unfortunately in this case, the VSC system was meant to neutralize the race. For Checo, the fact Russell was trying to pass perez a few turns back meant he probably thought race was on given the 10-15 second delay was over. Unfortunately it wasnt.

But ultimately what is shameful is that a VSC is supposed to be there for safety, and if people are racing and gaming the system, then its a system that either needs revamping or needs to go. If people are gaming a delta and trying to jump the gun then IMO that should be punished or rectified systemically (ie fixed speed).
