It sounds like the Teams/Drivers were threatened with their ability to leave the country if they didn't race.

Apparently the Saudis had held a bunch of WWE wrestlers on the ground before until some payment issues were settled before so there is precedent.

I know previously we've agreed to try and avoid politics in this thread but this certainly brings to light some of the issues with the FIA chasing the $$$$ when planning races.

As an aside, given how many Scandinavian/Nordic drivers there are, why aren't there any races up North? Have there ever been tracks in Sweden/Denmark/Finland on the calendar?
