I rolled the Japanese grand prix into a Japan trip a few years ago and it was fantastic. It's warm and typhoon season, but Japan is amazing for those who don't think travel is overrated.

Yeah we did the Suzuka GP a few years ago (2018) and it was a top-notch event (even if the race itself was a bit meh). It's a bit of a walk from the train station but NBD and we even managed to snag a ride back to Nagoya from some friends we made at the track.

Not sure how they could ever keep him when a rookie comes in and wipes the floor with him his first race. Does his family have a ton of cash like Stroll? How is he even in F1?

I didn't know that. No wonder he doesn't give a shit. Not like he needs to be racing.

In all fairness, that's his dad's worth, not necessarily Nick's. But the sky is the limit in terms of alternate career paths for him, should he choose to give up F1. There are still plenty of other circuits he could compete in (and maybe do reasonably well in).

Didn't daddy almost bought Williams when it went on sale? Almost pulled the same move as Stroll?

I guess Williams current owner doesn't need sponsorship $ any more?

That or if they actually want to become competitive they need to move on from Latifi. Can't have a guy who's sipping on a coffee one morning hop in the car a couple hours later and flat out destroy the other driver who's been in the same car all season.

Everyone hates on Latifi but tbh he actually is a pretty nice person. With all the hate I expected him to be a cocky rich kid but he's fairly nice person. Just doesn't have the skill level to stay in F1 so happy to see him move on and open up the seat for someone else now.

This is a good point. I have nothing against him and agree with you he seems like a solid dude. He just isn't a great driver at the f1 level

Yes it's a bought and paid for seat. As mentioned his dad is the sausage billionaire. But lesser known is that his Mom is extremely wealthy too.

I don't know enough about his career prior to F1, but I'm baffled when Herta is struggling to get a super license, but somehow Latifi has one.

Latifi came through the ranks via F2/GP2 which is under FIA control. So they are valued much higher than Indycar. It's fucking stupid that they dont give Indy car equal points, if not more points towards the super license. For open wheel racing, the talent level and difficulty racing in Indycar is beyond F2/GP2 imo.

It's still mind blowing that the entire point of the super license, is to prevent people buying their way in, but the guy with the license is the one paying for his seat, while the talented guy sits on the back burner.

Didn't Latifi lead the F2 championship for awhile? Or was sitting in the top 3?

Yep same here. Did that in 2019, the year Typhoon Hagibis came in and pushed quali and race to sunday. Suzuka is a cool track, but get ready to go early as transport lines get overwhelmed there too. At least the Japanese are organized and their transport is on time lol
