Thumbs down New vehicle order and dealership interest hike at Shaw GMC Calgary?

    Buying a 2022 Camaro ZL1 and a 2022 Colorado ZR2...

    What is happening here?

-Politely telling me to eff off, we don't want to do business with you, or
-Times are tough, we can do what we want.

This is a tad frustrating when you set up a relationship with a salesperson and they come back with an obnoxious offer to purchase.

    Hi Perry,

Will you be able to confirm that:

-Shaw GMC Ltd. is offering 6.99% for a 48-month finance rate for the 2022 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

-GM Canada has 3 banks (RBC, TD Auto, Scotiabank) that offers 2.49% for 2022 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and 5.99% for the ZL1 1LE trim.

    Regards,

    Jay

    Hey Jay,

We have desked the payments at a bank rate (6.99%). This is what they would be willing to sell a ZL1 at. The loan can always be paid out after 6 months. Let me know if this is something you would like to proceed with.

Shaw GMC is such a scuzzy dealership. Take your business elsewhere. Probably the greediest GM dealer in the city.

Sounds like a “We are only selling cars with financing at our inflated rate, take it or leave it”

There are dealerships right now refusing to sell you a car unless you trade in something. Wild times.

I just couldn't bring myself to buy a vehicle from a dealership that acted this way. Fuck them.

If it makes you feel any better you're not alone lol This is happening for a lot of buyers now and not just in the car industry.

So they are refusing to finance the car through GM Canada?

GM dealers in this city suck, I went up to Edmonton to buy my Camaro from Northgate GMC a couple years ago. I would say this is mainly due to the current market/shortages, no bueno.

I very much doubt that you have to hold onto the loan for the full 6 months. What is probably happening is that the broker desk at their funder has a holdback on the loan and they claw back the dealership's commissions if you pay it out.

Here's what I would do: check the fine print on the loan to ensure there are no early payment penalties. There shouldn't be as Canadian law makes that very difficult on auto loans. Then I would arrange my own loan ("HELOC that shit playa!"). Then I would take possession of the car, and pay it out the next day. You get the car, a low rate, and most importantly you get to fuck over the dealership.

Also, your salesperson has a nose ring and an anthropology degree....maybe we found Kert?

The reason they are forcing this is because of exporting. Too many people not playing by the rules and exporting new vehicle early on in the pandemic. If the vehicle gets exported before 6 months AND 12k GM has been charging back incentives etc to the dealers themselves for not preventing it from happening. It’s not unique to Shaw unfortunately.

Ford pretty much told me the same thing. 6 months of 15k whichever comes first if i export it theyll black list me from buying ford again. They'll literally John Cena my ass for an F150 . Like if it was a Ford GT ok... But come on lol

The benefit of masks is not known at this time. But we do know it is some non-trivial amount more than zero.

We also know that the cost of mask use is, essentially, zero.

So the cost:benefit of mask use is approaching infinity. I'll take that every time. And every time I see someone without a mask, I think they are stupid.

Just go to whatever the Alberta equivalent of Mainline Motors is, and if there isn't one go to Mainline in Watrous or Rosetown.

+1 for Mainline in Rosetown. Bought my first truck from them and will be buying my next one from them as well.

Mine came from Strathmore GM. They sold for about $3800 less than GSL (next lowest). Pre-pandemic. Doubt they'd have an allotment for a ZL1 though.

That said, I'd try GSL. Salesman named Lynn, he was by far the best vehicle salesguy I've ever dealt with.

We dealt with him when we bought our Murano from him about 5 years ago. Seemed like a decent guy.

I drove by GSL the other day and there was a sign saying that it was being renamed. I can't remember the name, but it is no longer GSL from what I read.
