Fuck it, lets get cams too. Can't let the ls guys have all the fun. Should crack 500whp at the same boost as before with these. Plus a crown dick with a lopey idle will be cool.

That's some serious power! Once the roads warm up I think this would be a good race for my wagon. I should have a bit more power but I think you have a weight advantage, all for fun either way!

Some exhaust mani porting, will be sending these for ceramic coating. Won't be touching the heads, but on these I saw some big easy improvements to be made.

Banana harvest is in, only one out of eight though. On the plus side, the inside of this engine is in great shape and rod bearings were mint mint mint.

Here is your one and only money shot of the new parts before they disappear into the engine. Manley pistons, speedmaster rods, manley springs, comp titanium retainers, comp cams.

And assembled the ring packs onto the pistons. Boring part is over, now I can just slam it all together.

    Nice work.

What are you using to check all of the clearances?

Feeler gauges for rings, micrometer and bore gauge for piston to wall (checked last week), and just plastigauge for rod bearings. You can go really overboard checking clearances when building an engine, but I am sticking to just the essentials for this one. A good low mile engine (that was running when pulled) and standard size parts and bearings/rings will get you in the ball park. Only had to fiddle with ring gap.

Assembled heads and bolted them down today. The comp cams take a different cam gear bolt than I have, but I have a feeling Mopac will have the ARP version of the bolt in stock, so I can proceed with more assembly later this week.

I've always wondered what these were like to drive. When you're driving it do people slow down around you?

Not so much while driving but park it on the shoulder of a highway and everyone hits the brakes. It ran out of gas when I got it from the auction and parked on the side of McKnight while I got gas, was pretty funny.

    In other news, it's alive:

Got the exhaust just the way I want it. Quiet but not silent at cruise with no 4.6 rasp, and rowdy at WOT. Winning combo ended up being a dynomax turbo muffler and a boost activated cutout.

(I cut open the can on the actuator and put a lighter spring in so it opens at 2psi instead of 7psi)

Good muffler choice. I switched to those on my c10 to quiet it down.

Lil 60ft helper. 30 dry shot to wake it up out of the hole, plus charge cooling.

Put a Walbro 450 in the tank tonight. I'm still super super impressed the stock pump was able to hang at DOUBLE the stock horsepower, I think all of the flexfuel Crown Vics got that pump.
