Default Kids Tablet, Amazon Fire best bang for buck?

Looking for tablet for pre-teen kid, doesn't need to be super fast, use case is videos/movies, educational apps, Minecraft, etc.

Anyone using Amazon Fire tablets or the Kids+ subscription for their kids?

Can you install Google Play store Fire Tablet? Is it worth doing this?

It is apparently possible to get the "real" google play store. But not every app that works on stock android works even after you do this. Or at least the one I bothered to dig into doesn't.

Fire tablets are the best hardware bang for the buck without question.

Worth it. Especially with their free exchanges for cracked screens.

Yup, can’t go wrong with these for kids. Like mentioned above, download Fire Toolbox which essentially “jailbreaks” the device so you can run google play store and download YT kids etc.

Good alternative if you don't want to work around Amazon app store on Fire Tablet.

Downside of Chromebook is some apps are not available via Google Play and you may have to sideload.

Whats your budget and preference between Android and IOS?

I have a 2018 Android Fire HD 8 and it is slow. Shaw Freerange doesnt want to load either, works great for youtube and some kids apps but my recommendation would be to look for an older Ipad.
Sound quality of Apple devices is much better.

For those of you that are already using these, are you able to run all the streaming apps? Netflix, Disney+? Obviously, I'm assuming Prime video works on it haha.

Amazon Prime, Netflix, Disney+ and Youtube works fine on my 2018 Fire HD 8
Shaw Freerange doesnt want to load live streaming.

Display brightness and sound is inferior to an ipad though.

Expecting too much from a $80-$100 tablet. Just pair a BT headphone.

Fire HD Kids has a different OS (though you can still access normal Fire OS), and has Disney, Netflix, and Prime. It doesn't however have Kids YouTube, unless you jailbreak it.

that's the thing though, I would also consider looking at an old Ipad or Ipad mini instead of going all out Amazon tablets

What iPad can you get for $100 in the used world that still runs a supported version of iOS?

Serious question, I need to replace an iPad Air (original) that my mom got for free but I don't want to spend that much $.

Fair question, ipad mini 4, ipad air 2 or ipad 5th gen would be the lowest to support IOS 15 but price seems out of whack
I remember selling our Ipad Air 2 for around 150$ on Facebook but this was last summer

That's the problem with iPad, if I have to pay $200 for an old one, I may as well drop $300 on the cheapest new iPad you can get our hands on.

Budget <$200, must be Android based. Doesn't need cellular connection, Wifi only is fine.

The question is. How much do you love your kid.
