As to the previous discussion about the Concept of a no-fly zone. There's Three questions that need to be answered.
1) Could NATO enforce a no-fly zone over Ukraine? (probably yes)
2) is it SMART to enforce a no-fly zone over Ukraine from a MILITARY standpoint (Probably No - will escalate conflict and mean a proper hot-war with NATO countries becoming fully involved)
3) Who's the bad guy (Probably meaningless - but probably Russia)

People are focusing far too much on #1 and #3, when I think #2 is the most important. If I had a vote, I would vote against ANYTHING that could put Canada into a hot-war with Russia.

Nato has no authority in Ukraine. Not that that has ever stopped then, but they don't have the balls to go toe to toe with Putin.

Don't worry, there is nothing that Canada could offer from a military point that would make any sort of difference, besides just getting in the way. The half a dozen or so fighters we have in Romania aren't a meaningful force. We would probably be assigned reconnaissance patrols around snake island.

I think it's about Ottawa getting nuked than what troops to commit over there.

If Russia is having trouble taking east of Dnieper, I really doubt ww3 will be another conventional one.

This is why our current strategy of arming the Ukrainians with modern weapons is the best way forward. They are doing just fine. Once the dust settles then we can talk about putting in a "peacekeeping" force in eastern ukraine.

An interesting question, does it count as Russia attacking Ukraine with nukes if Russia does it in land they've occupied? What about Crimea? Because it actually seems like Russia could get pushed out of there by spring time.

I think the short answer is that to the rest of the world, it would count as using nukes against Ukraine. For Russia, I think it's a given that they would claim it's their own territory.

They would have NO HOPE against Russia. They already burned through 70% of their antitank weapons in May.

Plus, Russia sent in 200k troops to secure east Ukraine against 900k Ukrainian Nazis. Hasn't even used its airforce yet.

The research is pretty neat, depending on the depth of the water the nuke is detonated in, the tsunami size correlates to how much water the nuke vaporizes. This apparently is because it's not the nuke moving the water to create the tsunami, so much as the big hole of water that has the ocean rush into fill.

Like I said, neat. Kind of want to see them test a 20+MT bomb on this.
