Historically speaking, both the Nazi and Commies invaded independant central Europe as a co-operative effort. Hence, the very early offer of Stalin to join Hitler. It was only later that they directly fought.

Independant countries are always weakest. Sort of like how a seperated Alberta would be after burning its bridge with Canada, but not gaining full statehood with the USA. Again, I highly recommend against even mentioning Alberta seperation unless a strong anti-aircraft system is deployed. Primarily against US invasion, but Russia as well OR even that strange but often occuring scenario where the weak country gets invaded by BOTH strong nations.

Even if Alberta somehow managed to wrangle US statehood, the rest of Canada would immediately be seen as weak, and probably invaded by Russia, or China, or USA or everyone. No Jokes.
