That whole "genocide" word has been made meaningless through its liberal overuse by idiots.
Glad someone said it. Although I'm surprised that you of all people would call Putin an "idiot."

Now I wonder if Putin's absurd claims of "genocide" deliberately made the word meaningless, in order to pave the way for actual genocide?

Putin is just using our words and actions against us.

He has used American prior actions as precident to justify his. Cuba, Libya, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Iraq, Syria, Iran.... name your poison. We've done 1000x worse, and that's his excuse.

I doubt he means it, but he's milking it. At the very least it magnified western hypocrisy.

Met a Russian colleague for lunch and got a bit more potentially inside view.

    - This is supposed to wrap 3-5 days as expected and tons of Ukrainian politicians and insiders are already bought to wrap this up quickly. Somehow that didn't go as planned.
    - Generation divide is real, over/under 40 has a totally opposite view of this war. Over 40 are all cheering for the war and under 40 are mostly in despair as future prospects are now shot.
    - He doesn't see the east/west divide and claim victory by May 9th as media as say tenable. This will be fought for years/decades to come and will only end with complete eradication of Ukraine.

Nato member Turkey says Nato doesn't care about Ukrainians, and is prolonging the war trying to weaken Russia.

I imagine that's all likely true, Xtrema. Without a coup from inside (from which Putin is seemingly well insulated), this is likely to play out as that dude predicts.

There are variables though that could change everything. Trying to supply Ukraine to help them win and sanctions may be just the first step from the West. I could see European nations not under NATO command supply air power as a next step if the EU would rather not have a war on their continent. Putin could also settle on redrawing borders that no other nation recognizes and calling it a job well done - despite the decades of conflict that would follow.

Neither I believe are likely, and it's pretty sad in todays age to see a country get torn apart by external forces right in front of us, and nobody wants or can step in to actually prevent it.

If Ukraine not under NATO/EU got what they got, I really doubt any other non-EU/NATO countries will get involved. Heck even some EU countries are not even onboard for most of what's going on.

I don't think other than entering the war, the west or the US have any hands left to play other than secondary sanction. Uncontrolled inflation will topple many governments, especially democracies and secondary sanction will only accelerate that.

China will back Russia 100% (one theory I heard from mainland is that if Russia falls or stop being a threat to US, China is next). They seem to think secondary sanction is a certainty and is preparing for it.

Sorry, I might not have explained myself properly. A NATO member country cannot be attacked or it's an attack on all of NATO. However, as far as I know there are no rules indicating that NATO countries cannot participate in other offensive campaigns independent of NATO. So, for example, if Poland decided they were going to send their air power to the region. I would imagine that would be a move that would not risk starting WW3 (which seems to be the big point of contention from the West), yet would provide Ukraine a huge step up with another 100-200 fighters in the air - effectively doubling or tripling Ukraine's air power.

Like I said, it seems like an unlikely move but in my mind, Putin trying to take over the entire country was an unlikely move in my mind. This is a war of uncertainties.

But, in the end, I imagine you are right. The West will probably continue doing what they've been doing, and Ukranians will keep dying. With that said, I'm not even sure what is LEFT to sanction.

Again, Poland won't give Migs directly to Ukraine and want US to do it. US reject that deal.

No NATO member will be doing anything directly against Russian troops. It will continue to be a proxy war of Ukrainian troops operating western provided weapons.

Zelensky is still hiding in Poland though. I wonder if the Russians will send a proxy over to take him out, or will they just say fuck you for harboring a terrorist and war criminal and take him out themselves??

The US has been⁸ ramping up its public "concerns over russia using battlefield nukes" rhetoric.

This is concerning, because a frame job must be brewing as a reason to escalate this war now that Russia has practically achieved its objectives.....

Scary times indeed. Are you stocked up on canned goods and iodine?

I guarantee covert/elite SF teams from across the western world have been on the ground for quite some time.

We KNOW they are, could easily just say there were part of the "volunteer" forces.
