Would Putin nuke Finland the day it joins NATO? I wouldn't take it off the table. It is folly to think that this conflict will solely remain within Ukraine. If this is Putins big push, he might try to grab ALL the non-NATO nations left. Hard to say if he is "toying" with Ukraine, or is legitimately slowing down the war on purpose - like the US does with all its modern battles.

A lot of times its no so much that you want to conquer, its that you can't let the other guy conquer and get too close. To let the USA help Taiwan would be solid reason for China to nuke the USA. If Cuba once again decided to join Russia or China, the USA would probably bring out all the nukes again.
