This one bothered me less than other famous rockers who have died in the last couple years (Tom Petty gutted me). Meat Loaf (when he was doing Jim Steinman stuff) was kind of a guilty pleasure for me. I remember when I first started listening it when I was like 13. All my other friends were into things like MCR or Greenday, and here I was listening to a fat man bellowing songs about sex, drugs, and cars/bikes. As I got older I defs stopped listening to this kind of rock as often because as it has been stated, it's kinda redneck Then when I got back into performing music I fell back into it again cause the Bat albums are so great musically. Plus, my wife HATES Met Loaf, both the food and the singer.


All is all, bummer to see a legend gone.

To be fair I’m probably more of a fan of Jim Steinman, it just so happens that Meatloaf was doing the delivery, and doing it so well.

Yah you can always tell a Steinman song. His style and harmonies and structure was so distinct.....Meat Loaf was always mistakenly casually credited with being a strong writer, but his talent was his delivery of Jim's songs. You hear Steinman sing his own songs and it just isn't the same (he released an album of much of the same songs when him and Meat Loaf had a falling out). But his examples from Celine Dion, to Bonnie Tyler, Barry Manilow, to Air Supply are all distinctly Steinman and I love it. One of my first intro's to that style of Rock Opera was listening endlessly to Bat out of Hell on Vinyl, which I've since inherited from my father. I agree with you though, its an experience thing, nothing better than headphones, lay back close your eyes and just listen to the moods and lyrics and layers in the songs. Epic is how I describe them to anyone every time.
