Gave that place Olea on 14th a shot last night.

Really like the menu, and outside the mains thought the prices were super reasonable. Execution and presentation good and good cocktails. Arancini and shishito peppers were really good as was the basque style cheesecake. Had the swordfish as entree, not sure I would choose that again but it wasn’t bad. Pastas seemed to be more their strength.

Not next level amazing food, but solidly enjoyable.

Didn’t take pictures of my food.

    Looked great, tasted great.

Went out for dinner and finally tried Primary Colours. Shockingly this place delivers very high value, I'm genuinely astounded the restaurant wasn't more busy. The four of each ordered cocktails, made it family style ordering 3 appetizers, the BBQ duck, veggies and two desserts... Just over $200. And we were all stuffed.

Would highly recommend trying it out and we can't wait to go back.

Agreed, have done some of their fixed menu holiday meals, good value and seems to be just popular enough that it’s gets close to capacity , but I still get a table when I have procrastinated on the event

Figure I start posting shit I’ve been learning to cook.

First try at katsu chicken don, with Japanese beef curry. This was my Shikiji go to order till they closed down 5 years ago.

Still need a bit of work on the consistency of the outer crust, and need some garnishment as well.

Another try at it. This time frying with an air fryer.

Definitely not as juicy, felt a bit overcooked. Think I need an actual deep fryer. Any of you guys have tips for a quick fry without a deep fryer?

For frying, get a smaller pot/pan… enough for a serving or so of whatever you’re making… add oil, fry without over crowding and THEN once everything is fried, put it in the air fryer

This way everything is hot and the air fryer has enough oil to really do something. Very similar results to double frying, which is good, that’s the key to all fried food… 2x

More shit to wash, but I’ll give that a shot. Thx.

For this air fryer batch, I’m using Pam spray to get the fry going. It looks good, just the meat became overcooked as it took 9 mins per side to get it crispy.

Think I nailed it. Double fry did the trick. Sous vide at 60C, pan fry 45s per side, air fry 45s per side. Crunchy while soft as shit. Thanks for the tip.

Ok I just got a new addiction. Jamon Iberico. It’s fucking amazing. Like Wagyu but I can sit down and eat a pound of it whereas Wagyu is too rich.. Does anyone have a source in Canada?

    Iberico is good.

But at 2lb per serving just get a high quality Serrano ham

Thanks dudes, didn’t realize it was so expensive!

They have it at breakfast daily so I think I’ll just shave a ton into a ziplock and bring it home haha..
