Default Ubiquiti AP - Can’t connect at home

Anyone had issues connecting AP’s on a Telus home network? They worked at my old house, they work at work, but now it either says unable to connect or gets hung up 95% on the bar when connecting, tried resetting, tried different Ethernet cables, tried connect straight to the modem… any one with any insight? I need better wifi lol

Factory reset, use poe but dont connect to yoir network. Use the unifi app on your phone to connect to the management wifi within 5min of power cycling it.

I assume you are running a controller somewhere?

I never use the app for anything

Hmm. Never tried that. I’d say that’s a pretty non standard implementation.

I’d recommend using a controller. Give you a lot of control and insight.

You don’t need to run it all the time if you don’t want to. Just when you make changes or want to see what’s going on.

Unifi APs require a controller so that they can be accessed from a single device for configuration and such.

This can be accomplished in many ways.. Docker, your computer or even a secondary computer. Unifi makes special hardware for controllers but its a big price.

I setup a docker container on a low power device to run the controller software as well as a few other things.

You can also configure APs individually with the app. It’s a bit of a nightmare as it’s literally configuring each AP and not a whole network but works in a pinch when someone doesn’t have a laptop and only has a phone or tablet.

The controller software is free and runs on any laptop or desktop you have kicking around.

I don’t think I’ve ever been thanked for basically telling someone to “be better” before.

But glad to hear it’s working. Love nerding out on UniFi stuff.

Haha, that was more so for rage spoon feeding me the solution. But you got the convo going

God damn my download speeds are crap though, changed the channels so they don’t compete with my Telus router. Sub 10mbps on a ookla speed test still…

Telus Wi-Fi broadcasting but not moving any data isn’t going to interfere. In the controller, take a look at what wired speeds the AP is connected at. Make sure it’s gigE. Wiring problems could be a culprit in slow speeds. Literally had @phreezee fix my cousins house for this problem.

If you have Telus TV you won't be able to turn off the WiFi. Provided you have STB's that are not Hardwired to Telus's router.

No telus TV, cancelled cable and just have a fire stick with IPTV.

Rage, i thought about that when i was shower pondering this morning. One of them is hooked to a swtich with cat 6e though, maybe i need to check what's between the switch and modem though.. I'm going to directly wire one to the modem with cat6 and see what happens. maybe i need to pull some new wire for the rooms. The one connected with cat6e said FE for speed, i don't know if thats the same thing you're talking about but its all i could find haha..

Going to do more trouble shooting tonight.

In the controller interface, if you click on unifi devices then click on an AP, a panel pops up on the right. Scroll down and open up uplink wired and it’ll show your speed.

If it doesn’t show GbE or worst case it’s on a wireless mesh uplink, you got wiring issues.
