Default Kal Tire no more retorquing wheels?

So I took my car to Kal Tire to get my tires rotated and they never mentioned anything about bringing it back after 100km to get them retorqued so I ask them about it and they said they double retourqe now so no need to come back. So my question is why they change to this method? I remember ever since high school they always ask you to come back. lol

They probably changed because it's a headache for them and they can save time/money by not doing it.

Not a huge loss, IMO. I wouldn't trust the average kal tire tech to wipe their own ass properly, let alone work on my car. Buy a torque wrench next time it's on sale at CT and do it yourself.

Retorque your own lug nuts after any shop touches them. Nobody cares about your safety as much as you do. And it's easy.

If you're not confident watch any video on youtube.
Very safe to do so on your own. In fact recommended.

These things go on sale all the time for ~$65

I know a guy who is confident that the entire concept of this is for the shop to catch their own mistakes (if any) when the customer comes back while simultaneously absolving their responsibility for negligence on those who don't come back (which I'm guessing it's 95%).
He says fasteners don't magically loosen themselves within the first ___km of driving on new tires and then magically stop loosening themselves immediately after that fictional distance.

But that's none of my business. Kermit.meme

I do my own summer/winter swaps and typically I re-torque after a week of daily driving. There has been the odd occasion where one or two bolts are not quite up to the torque spec after a week but not often. If you have a good torque wrench and know the torque specs for your vehicle it's always better to be safe than sorry.

No, but small errors in initial torque may take a few heat cycles and a certain amount of vibration to show themselves. After those heat cycles, and a re-torque, the odds of a fastener loosening is much lower for the remainder of the time. It's actually rooted in sound engineering. Or engineering process control, if you want.

They fuck up my wheels enough every time I get new tires. Every single time. Always have new chips/dings around the lugs. As usual, I call the manager and give him shit, and tell them I don't have any time to waste pursuing a repair claim. I never return for anything more. I continue going there for convenience factor as close to my office. RIP my life.

Is that because their suspension bolts need to be re-torqued every so often or risk of your suspension falling out? Not sure if they are using torque to yield fasteners on their suspension or just not torquing them right from the factory.

I've never bothered with this. Never checked it. Never cared. Never had an issue.

I've never had a properly torqued lug nut need tightening after driving on it. Or heard of anyone ever having the issue.

Kal Tire let a friends car roll off the lift while they were servicing it... so can confirm, don't trust them to tighten lug nuts.

I don't care what anyone says... Re-torquing is just good common sense easy to do stuff that gives you the opportunity to catch a very rare instance of a wheel loosening from a multitude of reasons, creating a much bigger hassle than checking them to begin with.

    Fuck Tesla.

I may end up with one in my garage soon enough as my wife wants one. If we do go that route, I will be back in a straight piped diesel with mods immediately to make sure my net emissions remain the same.

As a mechanic, this is 100% my exact take on it. It's just KalTire corporate bean counters covering their asses. I don't blame them though, they do have a lot of dinguses working for them.
