Propane powered vehicles were a big thing in the UK for a couple of years...bunch of start ups were opening shops to do the conversions to regular gasoline powered cars, usually "big" V6 or V8 motors

Did this phenomenon ever appear in North America?
I remember that. LPG I think it was called. I remember the petrol stations being upgraded. Then after a few years they dissapeared. The gas was cheaper, almost half I think.

They still are. The majority of school busses are propane. Very few diesels in the Southland fleet. I did see an electric school bus at their head office for testing just before I left. But I am guessing that's a few years away yet.
Neat, had no idea they were still largely LPG. Been a hot minute since I was on a school bus.

I can hardly remember a vehicle that I’ve previously owned that could get 10L/100km. Maybe my 220hp Volvo C30 on the highway……… With my wife driving.

My M5 got 9-10 highway, with the supercharger on it. Could make it ~700km to Kelowna on one 70L tank. Not driving like an asshole but giving it little spurts of throttle through the mountains on the way.

Need is a relative term. The stupid thing is that the car has an Eco mode as well, I think it's a trap and if you engage it there are scissors that come up out of the seat and cut off your balls.

For real. Cruise set ~120 on flat ground (here to Lloydminster) I can get it down to single digits. My previous SRT could get into the low 8s. Don't get me wrong, driving with enthusiasm in down I can see 16 - 18 L / 100 KM too though. At that point it's the cost of the tires, the gas doesn't even matter anymore...lol.

We currently have a Golf R, no idea what kind of fuel economy it gets, haven't checked since ownership this summer. C30 was a reference to a vehicle previously owned.

Aerodynamics of the 5400lb Jeep wouldn't help on the highway either. As for eco mode, it really sucks when someone wants to go and you floor it in eco-mode, what a dog, maybe 500hp? Even if you switch it to sport mode from eco, if you're still full throttle, it won't change until you let off.

The aerodynamics make ALL the difference in the world. Our old four banger CR-V or the current MDX (AWD boxes on wheels) don't do as well as the Challenger on the highway.

Golf r will be significantly better than your others, obviously you don’t care which is awsome.

We have the alltrak, rs4 and navigator in that order of fuel efficiency. Although the nav and rs4 are very close.
Ya awd adds roughly 1-2l/100km but that was my gti with the 2.0L and the alltrack has 1.8L

Now that we have a carbon tax, burning more fuel actually helps the environment. Therefore this fuel economy talk is dirty.
Therefore please go back to praising and celebrating high fuel price AND high fuel consumption.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk(tm)

People in BC are extremely climate action oriented, what benefits the climate more than less people on the roads because of high gas prices? Shouldn't be complaining, it's exactly what they asked for.
