With that huge campus they built after wanting to exit downtown and the labs they started building just around the corner years ago I can't see how that could be the case, especially because they own the building. I spent a hot minute working for Imperial and that campus isnt set up to even be retrofitted to be used by multiple different companies. Who else could come in and buy the whole thing?

EDIT: Plus most of their corporate head offices for both Imperial and Exxon are all set up as Campuses so QP fits the corporate vision

I thought they moved down because a lot of their engineering firms were in the area and we’re also hoping other companies would follow? Now they are just surrounded by pharmaceutical companies.

They've been trying to offload two of their buildings for a while now. I'd imagine at this point if they got an offer for the rest, they'd be stupid not to take it. Just can't imagine who would want to. Not a good time to be an owner of office real estate, especially in a crappy location.

Hahah if I was an EIT it would be sweet to live right across the street from those buildings if I worked in there.

Well fuck me sideways. I take my statement back and can admit when I am wrong.

However I would imagine that was more of a function of the remote work which they were pushing pretty hard during that time period versus wanting to be downtown, as well as the campus being WAYYYY overbuilt for the staff they have. They've downsized a ton throughout different groups and getting rid of certain business units so thats not helping their case either.

When we first moved to calgary in 2012/2013 the company my wife worked for was located in QP and we were looking at houses within a walking distance. If we would have found something that wasn't $500k or run down then we would have absolutely moved there

The IOL campus has never been full and they're bleeding money from expensive offshore dusters over the last few years.

I can't imagine they've optimized Cold Lake in any meaningful way either. The big kahuna was supposed to be their Aspen Oil Sands project but that got sidelined, and the group was dismantled and reorganized throughout the country. It's too bad, the technology and property was pretty cool.

Imperial was the rumoured backer for the Stephen Avenue Mall tower development that got kiboshed.

Wouldn't surprise me to see them take over Shell Centre.

QP's 800K sq ft is a colossal amount of space. I heard thought that a big problem with it is that the space is arranged very poorly. Probably got some big titted bimbo to design the damned thing.

Jacobs was in QP and now that means Worley is there, too. Depending on what % of those mouth-breathers are back in the office, they would fill a big chunk.

No they weren't... Or at least that wasn't the rumour I heard circulating (that was confirmed to be accurate).

That would be such a Suncor move.

    It is a Suncor move.

Can't blame them, their current buildings suck. Even the rise/run on the first floor stairs are screwed up.

Suncor just decided earlier this year to stay and reno SEC. Doubt they’re moving unless the new CEO pushed this change all of a sudden.

but then again, that would be a very suncor thing to do

The Suncor buildings are at least two decades overdue for a Reno. That office sucks.

According to the article I found, Stephen ave tower was paused February and permit applications pulled in April after their anchor tenant pulled out

Suncor announced to staff they were staying in SEC in October 2022

Timing of those events makes that rumour seem like BS unless Suncor was still considering moving after announcing they were staying?

Truth. Renos supposed to start in 2024 so should be a nice perk for the people who make it past this latest round of cuts.

The Suncor rumours (as I heard them) first circulated in early 2022 and were confirmed - after his initial shock - by someone I trust to know.

After the Suncor deal fell apart, the project continued to try and find an anchor tenant and when nothing materialized, the plug was pulled.
