This video makes me think closer to 12hr of washing/decon/etc...
    So so much prep work!

By the way... Did Pan get exposed as a fraud who was taking money to swing favorable "reviews"?
Oops, my time estimates were for a pro detailer. For DIY/first timer you can easily double the time so ~20 hours to everything properly. Plus whatever it costs to buy tools, equipment, etc.

Yes, $15k/video or something like that

This is the only solution. Also, collect vehicle directly at port, or factory, as you don't want any lot kid washing it with a rock filled broom.
Yeah, never allow the dealership to do any pre-delivery wash or detail. Those guys are the real danger.

I don't watch him much but this is news to me. Pan got handled? Is that not pretty common in this industry though?

Same. I also assume it's rampant but I don't know how those paying aren't considered complicit in any fraud when the presenter keeps saying "yo - totes impartial".

I also would've thought $15k/video would be nowhere near enough for a presenter with lots of subscribers.

Isn't the whole decontamination thing a scam? Paint is basically plastic. Quick clay bar, or cleaning compound, buff and ceramic?

    Like 2 hours.

It's not fraud, that's silly. It's normal advertising.

Just like motor trend car of the year and most types of product reviews in any media format.

    Ummm... I think it is.

"As always, you can trust my product reviews because I do not accept any money or free goods to try out. I purchased these products with my own money and this is my unbiased opinion."

*Cashes cheque for $15k from Turtle Wax.

"Wow, this Turtle Wax sure it's the best product in every way!"

He's blatantly lying. It's not like regular advertising where "we're the best" can be a subjective opinion.

    I'm not a lawyer, but I passed a law class once. I don't think that's fraud.

As others have stated, applying your own ceramic coating is not difficult. Prep is key and it takes time. I attended the free detailing clinic Carzilla offers a few years back and it was invaluable for me, highly recommended. The Guy's at Carzilla are awesome as well, always willing to help with any questions. I invested in an orbital polisher and have had a lot of fun and enjoyment maintaining my cars, not paying someone else to do so.

I'm a big fan of the CarPro line and use the UK3.0 with a gliss top coat on my vehicles, works great in our freeze/thaw world!

This guy has a pretty good reputation on YouTube and tests all his product side by side while documenting the whole process.
He seemed to like the Turtle Hybrid Solutions product

seeing how professional coatings can be in the $1000+ range, i'll stick to the diy spray coatings. I've had great success with turtle and cmx.

Ceramic wax is just marketing speak for sealant right?

Pretty much yes as they are all using synthetic compositions. I don't have a lot of experience with the new ceramix waxes but apparently they seem to work pretty well and can be used as toppers over existing ceramic coating.

I'm no chemist, but it appears the definition of "ceramic" is pretty broad in a chemical sense. So this may be actually accurate marketing, or it may not, but in the end it's pretty clear that the DIY spray-on style is inferior to the Pro style. Still quite good though.

As a somewhat related aside, before I ceramic coated my Camaro with Gyeon One, I had to first remove the blue meguiars hybrid ceramic spray sealant. Let me tell you, that stuff is damn durable. Took serious effort at the car wash to remove it completely even using Gyeon prep spray to help lift it as well as dawn dish soap.

Was pretty impressed for a spray on product. I had however, applied the meguiars ceramic spray with a damp microfiber as well vs the standard spray and wash method which seems like a waste of product/way less durable.

The hard work is the prep, compound and polish with a dual action buffer. That was easily 6 hours. The actual application was about 1 - 1.5 hours. Key thing is good lighting or a powerful spot light or you'll end up with little oily looking streaks where you didn't level out the ceramic coating especially on a dark vehicle.

So, what is a car wash like, now? I would expect you could hose it off in your driveway with no soap and no drying plus a quick drive after and it's gleaming?
Or is there more work than that?
