Unless you have a heat pump Tesla with no backup resistive heating haha. The workarounds in really cold days are to always be in a heated garage except driving lol. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

If you are talking Tesla 3 numbers, it ranges from 320-400km, and it would be misleading to ignore the price premium of the car. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
The payback period is years as it is with solar, which is quoted as 25 years on average.
Rushing out and buying an EV based on gas prices is reactionary.
I will buy an EV when:
a) the infrastructure is there to support it.
b) there is some technological advancement.
I think the Ioniq 5 is heat pump only as well, lol. At least it looks better than Tesla 3, and is built to higher quality. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I don't think ev's are perfect, but lets face it, most families have two cars anyway.

I like the styling of Lucid EV's
Not sure about Ioniq 5, but the EV6 differs in US vs Canada spec. Canada I think gets everything, heat pump, resistive heating, and battery heater. US if you spec out heat pump, you lose battery heater, not sure about resistive heating. Information from Hyundai/Kia has been pretty incomplete, so I actually have no clue if I'm even correct. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Tesla should've equipped Canadian cars differently, just like everyone else.

I own a Model 3 SR+. But if cost is no object, then Taycan for sure. Model 3 is fine, but it's not a driver's car. It's just an appliance that does what it does every day, even with a heat pump in the cold. Coupled with home solar, it does feel great to charge the car with sunshine when I can. Tesla does have the battery and drive train really well sorted out, but the rest of the car isn't at the level I'd like it to be.
If I did it again I'd probably get a model Y - the hatch space would be nice. Definitely missing that coming from a hatchback before. But that said I do love my Model 3
Tesla, great company, medium cars.

First you said at the price of enmax"you ain't saving anything", which was dead wrong
Second. If you drive 2000km/month, that's 300kwh.
That's just 8 solar panels worst case winter average to offset. $2400 and a cheap made in China inverter to not pay gasoline for 25 years.
Would seem to me payback would be about 2.5 years for an SUV or sporty car.
Plus convenience factor of never setting foot at a gas station again and not relying on a single energy source.
I'm struggling to find a modern EV owner that regrets their choice.
I am really leaning to the Lucid.
As for roi.
I mean it was a joke more or less to respond to $2 gas.
No one realy cares. We are car guys, we buy cool shit that goes fast.
Hard to beat an EV.
I was joking with a friend that has actual race cars, and we discussed what it would take to actually beat a Lucid or Tesla plaid on the street, at a stop light, and really, we didn't think it was possible.
I understood that the Model 3/Y was supposed to come with a backup resistive heater when they moved over to the heat pump but that got scrapped because Elon is removing more features from those vehicles than he adds. What did they end up doing for all the Canadians that had no heat in their cars when we had that cold snap? I recall seeing new stories of Tesla owners in the prairies that were having issues travelling due to lack of interior heat. Was there a software update? It is kind of a bad idea not to include resistive heaters at least for the Canadian market but I sense that we aren't a priority for Tesla. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. It was a weird issue that only affected a small number of cars with the heat pumps. Their fix was initially to pre condition and crank all the seat and steering wheel heatersThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
In my friends model 3 performance, the issue was the the interior temp sensor. Even pre conditioning to 28 degrees, he said the car reported it reached 28, but it was still cold inside. He took it in, they fixed the sensor, and he had no more problems.
I also had always owned a truck, for incidental things.
We gave that up, and just pick up a $20 budget rental the odd time we need a truck.
An electric minivan. Now that would be cool.
Fair enough. No one would turn down a Taycan, Lucid Air Dream Edition or Model S Plaid. People who own these don't care about the price of gas either. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I'm surprised how many Tesla owners are here. Does anyone own anything besides Tesla here? No Mach E or BMW, or Taycan etc? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

That said, you may be a bit cold, Tesla remain to be the most efficient EV in winter, this is tested at -16c.
