Default What EV would you buy?

Seeing the post about $2 gasoline, maybe it's time for an EV.

If you were to buy any EV today, what would it be, and why?

I am not a Musk or Tesla fan, but I do recognize Tesla fanbois love their Teslas.

Lets pretend money is no object, but it has to be available on the market now. Not some promised land fantasy.

    What would you buy?

    Rivian or Taycan.

Disclaimer: I have a Tesla and it's fine but am excited for other manufacturers to step up their game.

Comrade, nobody needs anything more than a $36K Chevy Bolt.

As ES said, you are not paying your fair share of taxes when you don't use gas. And that's unpatriotic.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Taycan. They are nice!! Is Rivian delivering?

I rode in a friends model 3 performance. And honestly, for almost $100k, its fast, but even the carpet is like 2 pieces in it. I don't know, doesn't say hundredthousanddollarcar to me. But man, he loves it. Ran a 10.8 on his draggy. That's pretty good for a car you can drive anywhere year round.

I'd be looking at a Ford Lightning myself , if and when the need arose.

I prefer the styling of E-Tron to the Tycan.

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.

    60kwh gets you 400km.

My last bill for 3,300 kWh was $480 total with all the BS charges. That works out to $8.75 to go 400km

That's very good, plus if you invest in some solar...

    I will allow it.

I still have a deposit on an EV6 GT. Probably not taking it anymore with my short term vehicle situation sorted out.

At this moment? None. EVs suck in Canada with our winter temps.

I thought the same because you don't have the dino engine making all that heat. But my friend assured me he only loses 30% of his range, maybe 40 on the coldest days, most of which goes to keeping him warm. Plus when it dipped to the -30 for that nit, his gas car didn't start, but the EV shrugged it off.

Ask the EV owners on this forum. It's a smaller concern than I thought. Cold has impact, but it's workable.

City range is never a problem in EVs. I can’t even think of a day where I needed more than 200km inside the city, so EVs in winter are perfectly fine for it. It’s the out of town trips that’s problematic and inconvenienced. Winter weekend at west ed goes from a 2.5 hour door to door drive to a 4 hour journey. Drive slower, charge, wait… adds up.

Of course you could rent something for out of town trips because it’s not common but that’s a pita too. We basically rented a minivan/borrowed a SUV for the 2 road trips a year that we’d do, but in the end we just bought a minivan to eliminate the small pita of renting/borrowing.

I honestly like PHEVs. Enough range for 90% of my in city trips on electric only, and just use gas on the odd long trips.
