im not sure why you would pay more for one electric car over another.
I know that was a tongue in cheek comment, but there's lots of reasons IMO haha.

UI. Interior quality. Aesthetics. Handling dynamics (i.e., how does it turn). Also I imagine availability factors in. Charging infrastructure. Those are the ones that come to mind for me at least. Brand, like ES said, is important to some, but I personally don't care as much about that.

The Audi is definitely better looking. I don't think Audi and Porsche share platforms.
Same platform in these two cars. I prefer the Taycan styling personally and it's not like the Audi is cheaper.

It was half tongue in cheek. Half the reason people buy cars is the drivetrain. The other half is interior quality. I think brand is a function of those two.

If you are removing drivetrain from the equation, then you are removing half of the differentiation. Interior quality actually isn't that far behind. I mean when Mercedes is advertising interior features like configurable color on its ambient lights - well you know that there isn't much in it.

Pretty much everyone is making decent interiors nowadays.

This is all good stuff but in ten years Porsche as a nameplate won't mean much more than getting a Samsung phone instead of an HTC.

Can someone help me with math for EV vs. a mid tier sports car in Alberta? Lets assume both cars travel 15,000 km/yr mostly city:
ICE: 18mpg (13km/100L) which is a combination of city/ highway = $3500 annual fuel cost at $1.70 (premium) on today's fuel cost OR $2400 at $1.30 on low end.
EV: ?? (I'm on fixed 0.0579/kwh so not sure what high/ low end of electricity cost you want to use).

Second question - which car competes with Tesla model 3 ($66k, 0-60 4.4s, 538km range, AWD)??

~1500km a month 0.06 rate at home. That’s based off regular 87 octane. Used 91 with the old car. So it’s probably more like $260ish saved a month

For electricity it's always 5 cents plus your electricity rate to account for the variable charges in transmission/distribution. So use 11.69 if you are on a 6.69 cents fixed price.

DISTRIBUTION CHARGE FOR DISTRIBUTION ACCESS SERVICE
Service and Facilities Charge per day $0.592995
System Usage Charge per kWh $0.011928

TRANSMISSION CHARGE FOR SYSTEM ACCESS SERVICE
    Variable Charge per kWh $0.038763
So for the -average- EV you're looking at ~20 kwh / 100km. So ~29$ a month in electricity for 15k km per year.

I could see myself getting something like a Tesla Model 3 Performance in a few years..... once the curb weight comes down by 10-15% due to battery improvements and someone like GM makes it

Take away 30% range/efficiencies for 4 months of the year. Potentially 6 if it’s real cold spring fall.

Tesla curbs weights always come down...once the panels start falling off.

So $250/m savings for 6 months and $150/m for the other 6? Cumulative $2400/yr when gasoline prices are at their peak and $1500-2000 when they are back to more normal levels?

In that really cold month it was $33 for the month, but the tesla didn't have logging back then I was estimating the usage (the charge history only came out in the app 3 ish weeks ago)

Say your current car gets 18mpg and you replaced with Rav4 Hybrid which gets 40mpg. Savings here are roughly $2k/yr… so maybe hybrid is the better answer for fuel savings alone.

I'm considering getting a M3P as my daily commuter as it's just a matter of me getting over my OCD and accepting that the car will be delivered in a condition that I normally would not accept from another brand.

Good point. Coupled with Elon rolling back other features and options, maybe they'll strip out some other stuff to reduce the weight

Yah and therein lies the rub, for North of $80K OTD I'd expect much better quality.

Of the generic affordable EV's - The EV6 is pretty sharp looking, so probably my first choice.

Or you can pay flipper premium on an Ioniq 5. No wait.

But that $1000 coolant flush every 3 years tho.....

If any of you want an EV6 GT that’s coming out next year, I probably won’t be taking it. I’m first on the order list at Kia for one. Not sure how transferable the order is, Hyundai was pretty strict about it not sure about Kia. At a minimum I can buy and flip it right away.

Our car situation is settled with 2 new vehicles this year and won’t be looking for anything else for another 3 years hopefully.
