They won an election because the WR and PC split the vote.
NDP support wasn’t dramatically different in the last two elections. Yet resulted in a swing from majority NDP to majority UCP.
The “rightness” of the UCP is irrelevant so long as it doesn’t result in a splinter party, in this sense more right is probably better.

It's the same reason why the Ontario PC party keeps winning.
And my concern is that BJ and DS are so far to the right that they'll lose a lot of the urban conservative voters by pandering to vocal minority out on the fringes thus allowing the NDP to run up the middle again just like 2015. I don't think they would even need to start a whole other party to split the vote so to speak, I'm worried that more centrist conservatives just won't tolerate BJ / DS. I hope to Christ I'm wrong though.
