Ah, the days of squeezing an enormous 200 horsepower out of a 5 liter turbo v8.

Pretty brutal performance - yet, this is a very nice example and will be worth some $$ for sure.

Wow! what a cool car and backstory. Truly one of a kind. Given its low numbers, I wouldn't be surprised if it would fetch somewhere in the 40's on Bring A Trailer. These cars really have appreciated in the past 10 years, so few nice ones left. GLWS and I bet its hard to let go of within your family.
    40's sounds low, to me.
While it's not ultra low mileage, the provenance is solid.

This will sound like I'm joking, but if you have pics of your mom beside the car from the first few years that would totally help sell the story. Again, not joking.

Speedog, any reason this can't be your mid life crisis car? Honestly, I wouldn't be letting that car out of the family.

I've moved on from needing some car in my life, a couple of my brothers already have their midlife crisis vehicles.

If it was the bigblock car it would get the high dollars I think, but being the 4.9 Turbo I think it would not be that high. Definitely a nice low mileage barn find though and still worth some legit coin! I would buy this just for memories if I had extra cash sitting around.

Great thread, thanks for sharing this Speedog, what an incredibly awesome car. I hope whoever gets it appreciates what it is.

IF I had the disposable income, I would be trying to make a deal.

The first race car I built was an '81 Camaro. I loved that car and would probably still have it today if it didn't get stolen.

If you MUST sell it, yeah, BAT is the place, but if I was in your shoes, I would be keeping it. It is worth more to you than to anyone else in the world.

Were the automatic trannies back in those days modified or tuned (or whatever the appropriate term is) to allow the turbo to spool up under more open throttle?

I'll be at my parent's place in High River for most of this upcoming Saturday, the car will be available for viewing and driving for interested buyers. PM me.
