Default any thoughts on what this fastener / threaded rod is called?

Trying to get an old motorcycle sorted out and this part just arrived after waiting for 8 months to get here from Italy. I would like to buy a backup (I should have ordered a few of them).

One side had right handed threads, the other side is left handed. I believe they are M6 size.

Anyone know if someone in Calgary might carry these in a hardened steel as it's a part of the shifter rod assembly and gets a decent amount of shear stress on it?

I'm also wondering if I can simply get rod in a single direction thread, replace the one heim joint that it fits into with the same threaded female end and not worry about having the dual threaded rod. The purpose is so you can screw it one way or the other and that raises or lowers the shifter arm assembly.

I've checked all the big hardware stores with no luck.

Looks like an adjustable tie rod of some sort. Function also matches as some sort of tie rod. Prob all the help I can be unfortunately.

Instead of right and left hand threads, add a nut and lock washer on the threaded portion which will clamp the threaded joint in place. Should be able to avoid a right and left hand threaded parts.

perfect, that looks like what I need. Doesn't look like they ship to Canada unless you are a business but I'll see if anyone carries these locally

I've had them ship to me before. Can't remember how I did it, but I don't really recall doing anything fancy. I do remember shipping be absurd though

Just to update, I've gone to every fastener store in Calgary with no luck. Someone suggested using a tap and die set, buying a piece of blank rod and creating my own threads, turn the die over and do the reverse threads on the other side. I've never done this before but sounds like a reasonable idea to try before I make an order with McMaster Carr and get hosed on shipping fees.

Anyone have any experience doing this? Is it as easy at the youtube videos suggest?

my only concern is the metal being soft enough to do that with, and it causing you issues down the road?

    Hold up!

I think I've got the company. Never ordered from but this would work for you if you can confirm the thread pitch.

    https://belmetric.com/m6-double-ende...ass-5-8-steel/

They've got length options and would be high grade steel.
I'd almost contact them through email as I think this is what they specialize in out of USA.

All you want is the threaded rod in right and left hand thread? Get me the measurements, I'll make it in school and mail it to you.

Princess Auto has some in 1/4-28 RH if you can make that work at all. Otherwise I'd be looking at Speedway/Summit. Could also give Mopac a call. They have rod eyes, just not sure if they have the stud kind.

Also, you can't 'turn the die over' and make reversed threads. A RH die makes RH threads no matter which way you start it. You'd need a LH die (or to cut the threads on a lathe).
