Has anyone used a house mover before? This summer I will be tearing down an old existing home (currently rented) and was wondering what was the procedure for determining tear down or move.

From what I have seen, you put the house up for sale "house only" for like $10K or whatever you think it is worth. Then the buyer is responsible for moving it.

Some houses are too big to move (like the one we ended up tearing down (50ft across the back)). So some houses you can't give away as it it cost $20-$30K to move them.

It's $15-$20K to tear it down and take it away.

Wade's handled everything for us (selling the structure, moving it). They can give you a general idea of value (whether it's worthwhile to move). You'll need to test for asbestos.

Wade's or McCann's are the places to contact. You can submit a form, they'll come inspect the house and make a few measurements.

The viability of doing this depends greatly on the structure's height and location. Moving power lines, traffic signals, and/or closing roads carries a significant cost. In our case, a single story home with 9' ceilings in inner city Calgary was going to be close to six figures to move.

Unfortunately for the earth, demolition is still cheap as fuck, $10k to demolish and dispose of a complete structure is hard to beat in terms of price efficiency. It's disastrous from an ecological point of view.

I'm almost certain there will be asbestos , it raised bungalow built in the 50's. I'll call those places and see what is the most cost effective.
