I swear I had that thread once, although it was less of a humble brag and more of a "I'm low class and don't understand nice things" thread. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

The Ranchmen's Club is desperate for members under 65, and they got the Von Der Fels crowd to run their food operations now. So if eating oddly trendy food and hitting on wealthy widows is your thing, can probably negotiate a cheap buy in there and play snooker until you drop.
EDIT: Oh man, the Ranchmen's is really one-upping the competition:
Access to a private Business Centre equipped with telephone, computer, printer and high-speed Wi-Fi.

So club memberships are like the BMW M5's of status symbols: by the time you get one, it's yesterday's status symbol, and the cool kids have moved on to other things.
Is that the one with the gun range? That sounded cool.

I have family members who were some of the original members of the Winter Club when they first built it. It was apparently quite a middle-class hangout at the time, because these folks were never wealthy. I think it is still the most "middle class" of the private clubs and the one where the sporting facilities are the main attraction.

Serious question (no, really). I have no issue being wrong but genuinely am curious what the demographic that wants the actual club membership (not the golf) these days looks like out there? No one in my circle of friends/business associates in the mid 30-late 40 bracket, here or in Vancouver, who swing that level of $-dick have any interest in these types of things, where back in the 90's/early 2000's attitudes were different. That is what I based my opinion on however different places/ages/industries obviously differ. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I say stupid shit all the time.
That's not cheap, but it does sound like way way less than I have heard of for private memberships and I guess that's because I've only heard of equity memberships. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I didn't know this one worked that way.

Like I said, I have zero interest in the downtown club, it’s all about the golf and the networking that comes with the golf crowd.
If you don’t like golf, it’s not for you.
is networking a euphemism for bothering people at the driving range?
Anecdotal (duh) but FWIW I have a good buddy that has a membership and his family primarily uses the sporting facilities. I don't think the "networking" really enters into it for him. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
He definitely isn't in it for the golf because until this thread I didn't even know they had a course.
