    Default Post body work inspection

Figured I'd just stick this here.

Wife's car is now repaired and ready for pick up at the body shop (from her moose impact.)

I was out and about and I decided to just go over there an take a quick look as they had it parked out front.

Hood is new and the entire front end of the car has been repainted. Looks pretty good actually, as a plus, it got rid of the tiny rock chips from over the years.

The front bumper had a crack right dead centre where it meets the hood, pretty much where the hood latch is. I can tell they did not opt to get a new front bumper. Instead it appears that the crack has been fixed and bumper painted.

The left head light had broken mounts on the housing. It looks like they used a headlight from an auto wrecker yard as a replacement or they kept the original and fixed the mounts. (Couldn't pop hood to check, didn't have keys.)

Everything looks square and snug tho. Paint is good.

I've never done this before so I ask... is there anything specific I should be on the lookout for when I go to pick it up?

If the bumper crack was caused by the collision you should receive a new bumper. Same with the headlight. What does the estimate say? Was this through insurance? Sounds like the kind of job you get when you are paying cash on the cheap.

Yes thru insurance at a local reputable shop. IIRC, the estimate did say a new front bumper. Not sure if they could find one and decided to fix the original or what. Definitely said new headlight... it was like $800 just for that part. But it doesn't look new.

    ^ Further to above.

Filler, Front Bumper - Replace PXN
Brkt, Front Bumper mtg - Replace PXN

Headlamp Assy, Halogen LT - Replace economy - $612.18

    plus labour and all that.

I guess they couldn't get the headlight or front bumper, the ETA for them is months away. So this is a temporary fix to get the car back on the road. Insurance knows about this as well.

We'll see if it actually comes to fruition lol.

If you harass them, yes maybe.

If you dont harass them, not a chance.

Keep in mind, new parts can be 6-12 months away. If you insist on getting a new bumper or headlights. get ready to be without a car for a longass time. If you can live with it and would like to get the car back in a reasonable time... you might have to just suck it up..

If this is a temporary fix, what is the issue?

6 months later any rock chips you get are fixed free of charge lol. Basically free ticket to go nuts and not worry.

Check the plastics if they were damaged at all - I spun off the highway in the 2000s & had the bodyshop try and return it with the fender liner and under engine/bumper panels all scuffed/wear holes from the tire/ice rubbing when I went in the ditch.

They tried to tell me they were wear items and not included in my insurance estimate originally.

I didn't know it was just a temporary fix until they explained it. I thought they were just using the original parts and saying 'here you go'.

The estimate says they were to replace the bumper, hood, left headlight. But the only thing that was replaced is the hood.

I agree @Disoblige . Drive the car now and not worry about it until the parts are in.

But the bottom line is that, while the car is drivable, it isn't fixed. Just needs to be done whenever parts become available.

As I said before, we'll see if it actually happens. People no longer give a fuck about anything and can't depend on them. People just don't care.

Hey guys. Unfortunately back at this again. Wife took my car to work this morning as I was taking hers to the shop today.

She calls me early in the morning saying she hit an animal.

2011 Ford Fiesta. Base model 5 spd.

Not sure if the car is worth fixing. Will insurance be pissy that it was my wife driving?

So she hit a moose in her car, and several months later hits another animal in your car?
    Sus.

Yup. In the same area on the same stretch of road. Not only that, you see that Jeep Patriot in the third pic? The driver of that also knicked a moose in the same area last year. Minor damage to the drivers side. Same couldn't be said about the truck following behind tho,... they smashed it head on.

Just a fuck ton of animal incidents out that way.

But damn, the ol' Ford did not take that impact well.

Insurance covers your wife, that should be a non-issue.
Get a police damage report and then start the claim, don't overthink things.

I'm actually not even the least bit concerned about it. I don't care much about this car. It was a car that got me to the airport and back. Sat out in the elements and what not.

It's still drivable at least. Just a tad more ugly lol
