    Default Work sharing program

Some people are getting put on work sharing where I work. Sounds like it some kind of "part time EI" where you get paid normal pay 3 days a week and EI rates the other 2, for instance.

Had a guy I work with ask me a few questions I didn't know the answer to.
    - is there a downside to this compared to just going on normal part-time?
    - what happens if you "make too much"?
    - what happens if you refuse?

I think that middle question is that you'd be elegible for max EI, which might be less meaningful if you were a high income earner, but the EI amounts themselves shouldn't be means-tested, I think.

Anyway, always love hearing everyones thoughts.

Seems like a good way to keep a bit of extra pay coming in while you search for a new job.

I would expect everyone put on that program to eventually quit.

Agreed, but also, if they make more than 55k a year before EI, they're paying that EI back. Unless it's a new rule, because ive never heard of work sharing.

Mother-goddamned-fuck. I spoke too soon. Turns out it's not just "some people" at work getting put on work sharing. It's me too. Dislike. Ah well, I'm back on the job market officially. All you beyonders that were just waiting to hire me, let's make it happen.

    Sorry to hear that.

Job market is pretty good right now though. I’ll send anything I see your way.

Yeah, job market is not bad. I've had my eyes open for a while, guess I need to step up that effort.

New "ExtraSlow's next career" thread soon I guess.

Best bet from what I see is try to get fired.
Or have a manager accidentally touch your leg in a meeting room.

I'm pretty sure ExtraSlow has a little Kevin Spacey in him.

The whole thing feels like constructive dismissal to me.

I dislike this more than @Toilet_X dislikes wiping.

Take your job hunt to the next level - T-shirts were brilliant, but why not a t-shirt cannon? Distribute your fabric resume with extreme prejudice at any executives within range.

For real thought, that's shit. Hope you find something better soon.

Am I the only one seeing this as a potential positive?

    - Working days - get paid regular rate
    - Days off - collect EI, get cash employment...??? Profit.

Seems like a win-win to me?

I guess it depends on how little you make, I guess it's not impossible to come out ahead. EI maxes out at a fully-taxable $127/day. (1/5th of $638/wk). In any event. For me, fuck no that's not a win financially or in any other way. I'm one of those sick fucks who likes having one job, and devoting myself to that job, and performing well, and being rewarded for that performance. I really like that system. I'm not against the concept of a side-hustle, but the best side hustles I've come across would be even better as main hustles.

The one silver lining for my personal situation is that I have been really stressed lately, so if I end up with some extra days off for a while, I will get into yoga or taking long walks or something which should be good for my health.

Only if you are making min wage or close to min wage and have the "asset" for cash employment.

IRL, you are really being asking to work 5 days in 3 day's time and any company that has to pull this move is in a death spiral anyway as everyone will jump ship as soon as other opportunities come along.

Weather is nice, go take a long walk @ExtraSlow .

It's only constructive dismissal if it's targeted to an employee.
