@bobbie , and everyone else, is there such a thing as those "all-weather" tires for pickup trucks? Like a mildly winter biased all season HT tire or something?

Been having fever dreams of buying that.

Maybe it's more like a "performance winter" tire, but load rated for a half ton truck. Is that an Xtra-load rating?
Are you means more mild looking patterns with compounding and high sipe density all weather tires rather than AT style all weather tires? If so, yes there are... General Grabber APT, Kumho Crugen HT51, BFG Advantage T/A Sport LT just to name a few. Still not as good of ice and snow traction as a pure winter tire, but certainly more so than the standard all seasons.

Have had a couple sets of Duratrac's, using KO2's now. Haven't been impressed with the treadwear on the KO2's, they're loud around 50-60kph but oddly not that loud on the highway. Always found the Duratrac's reasonable as long as you rotate them and your front end isn't worn out

    Interesting. Thanks Bob.

And to whomever above was considering a tire because it had the "three-peak mountain snowflake" symbol, that's on the vast majority of pickup truck AT tires and is nearly meaningless. Not totally meaningless, but not a big differentiator anyway.

Well the all weather tires are all season tires that have slightly softer compound and more accommodating tread to accommodate winter conditions.

And you want them in truck sizes.

Duratracs hit all of your requirements, literally an all season on off road tire that has above average AS winter performance, you just don’t seem to like that answer?

KAL seems to have tires with the marketing label you want in SUV sizes, maybe see if any of those meet your requirements too?
Was also going to say DuraTrac (particularly with the E-load), but I didn't love them in the winter once the studs wore out. With the studs, they were unstoppable.

The new Duratrac RT is starting to filter in very slowly in some sizes while other sizes are still keeping with the first gen... Along with a nicer sidewall design, the new Duratrac RT has higher sipe density and a revamped compounding and is supposed to be a step up but I have zero feedback or personal experience to qualify that and am just going by the propo's.

@tirebob and I just covered this discussion at his shop two weeks ago. Duratracs are somewhat industry standard, make it legal to travel to BC in winter (need mountain peak whatever) but I had a bad experience with them so I didn’t choose them. Have run K02’s for 100,000km on a half ton and they were adequate. My last set of Mickey Thompson’s got loud after 60,000kms on a HD so I’m trying the Falken Wildpeak AT3 which Bob supplied at a great price. No winter feedback yet, but they are significantly quieter than the Mickey’s which were a hybrid AT/MT

Ninja edit: we have the BFG Advantage LT on my wife’s Escalade because I was sick of repairing flats in the dumb 22” tires. So far so good, but they run large and do have a bit of extra hum vs the stock bs that came on it. Well worth it as we tow and travel gravel regularly.

Are people here saying that the K02 is a passable winter use tire?

Also, I put more than 100K on some K02's and they were just fine for wear/noise (summer only km).

Im running LT Wildpeaks from Bob on the tacoma w/ my camper since last summer. Great tire to date, but also run winters as I have bad memories of my Duratracs and being terrified

Are wildpeaks really all that good in snow? I mean my new car came with them from the factory, not sure on a truck though.

In truth, I've been satisfied with the performance of the GY AT adventure w/ Kevlar in snow and even deep cold. Very respectable. Maybe just stick with those.
These are what I've been running for 3 years now as well. I think it's a far better tire for city people who occasionally hit dirt. Duratracs, KO2's and all the like are better for people who actually go play in rough backroads, and not just gravel highways. The winters have been just fine in them, though my truck has a much better front/rear weight ratio than most.

Theyve been solid to me, but are the AT3W model. What car came with falkens!?

Mazda CX-50. I’ll hold up buying dedicated winters for it this year and see how it does over the winter.

Prob worth noting that the Mazda came w/ the AT Trail, not the AT3W (from what i can tell on google). AT3W is definitely a more aggressive tread.

This aligns with my mostly uninformed opinion.

I'm just going to give a shout-out to these again. I can't believe how well they're still working in this cold.

Yeah, they are better than they have any right to be. Better than the duratrac unless you get the duratrac studded. I'm running some Michelin tires these days after I swapped my F150 wheels top the Factory 18's from the Lariat. They are "just OK".
If I wasn't so damned cheap, I'd have dedicated winters on these wheels. But I am.
