Nice work Tom. i was going to come out to spectate (oddly a weekend i'm not at the lake) but as my wife/wallet was reminding me, i can't just watch motorsports. i'll end up competing...again...
Would they let a trackhawk attempt to skip/dance/bully its way through the cones? asking for a friend.

Anything can dance at least a bit when you throw on a set of R-comps

Thanks Chris. You might be fine in a Trackhawk, you'd just have to check the track width and overall height to make sure it's in the white area of the graph below. Your EVO IX would definitely be fine though

    67.9" tall
    64.6" front track width
In the grey area with the TH. nothing some thick wheel spacers can't fix.

yeah...evo...one day i'll insure it for the street again.

Apparently the manual is now coming to the Z4, kindof interesting especially if you aren't about the supra styling

I think that's slightly old news, but good news nonetheless.

I can’t say I keep that close to this but I was surprised to read it

Hopefully it isn't the same one as the Supra

Otherwise BMW would lose their signature rubbery gearbox feel

I’m pretty sure Toyota didn’t contribute much aside from sheet metal to that car so….

I thought the manual transmission was something they re-worked to get rid of the BMW feel. I recall it has its own part number, albeit still in a BMW cataloge

Yah Toyota fiddled with a an existing ZF Gearbox already developped for BMW.

""The parts used in the gearbox come from a combination of ZF manufactured manual transmissions, but the parts combination is exclusive to GR Supra," a Toyota spokesperson told The Drive. "Toyota partnered with ZF and BMW on the design/layout of shift lever/pedal, decision of final gear ratio, tuning of iMT [rev-matching and upshift smoothing] function, and shift feel."

This Supra-specific gearbox even gets its own, unique transmission code within BMW's parts catalog: GS6L50TZ. For what it's worth, the code for the manual found in the overseas and less powerful BMW Z4 sDrive20i happens to be GS6L40LZ, according to this SupraMKV forum post. Per BMW transmission designation rules, the difference between "L50T" and L40L" indicates a deviation in transmission "type" and gearset. The "GS6" and "Z" bits of the codes indicate a six-speed manual and ZF as the manufacturer, respectively. For further reference, the manual found in the current M3 and M4 is designated GS6-45BZ.

Anyhow, some Toyota-specific work on the Supra's gearbox allegedly included removing the acoustic package to cut down on weight, a "newly engineered large diameter clutch with a reinforced diaphragm spring," a shorter final drive ratio of 3.46 versus the automatic Supra's 3.15 to improve low-end acceleration, and a lever ratio that's said to minimize shift effort, as well as the specific weight and shape of the 200-gram shift knob
    ."

So basically they ripped out some foam and stuck on a new shift knob

Proof that it doesn't take much to make a better manual shifter than BMW.

Pretty annoying, luckily it's fixed with a $50 part that installs in 2 minutes.

I have nothing to add aside from I used to HATE the new supra, mainly based on looks.
But they have really grown on me.

    Neat car.

    Me too. Exactly.

Don’t sit in one though. It’ll ruin it again for you, if you’re taller than 6’
