and I did not have the only say in the matter (most people just want it done ASAP and don't care about quality).

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

I use the spam block on my BB to block the calls, so now a lot of them go straight to voicemail, and they always leave a silent voicemail 52 seconds long. The only phishing emails I get are sent to my email I use for Facebook. I've been forwarding them to the Canadian Governments spamfighter email, but they don't seem to be able to stop any of them.

Turn on call control or use call screen?
Both of these prevent the voicemail issue too.

Call control is also available on TELUS landlines
@spikerS could you please tell me more about this or PM me? I've got an elderly person who needs to block a number and when we contacted Telus they said no can do.

    For Landline:
    Customize Call Control
You can customize your preferences in My TELUS. These customizations include:

Adding numbers to your Accepted list, which ensures these callers always get through to you
Adding numbers to your Blocked list, which ensures these callers never get through to you
Viewing your last few calls and their specifics in the Call log, and allowing you to move those numbers directly to your Accepted or Blocked lists
    Managing Call Control with IVR
Call Control can also be managed with IVR (Interactive Voice Response).

    Dial *99 for English prompts.

    IVR can be used to:

    Turn Call Control on
    Turn Call Control off
Move any of your last 3 callers to your Allowed or Blocked list
    For mobility:
    Turning Call Control on
    Log in to My TELUS
Select the Call Control tab under Plans & Devices
Follow the instructions on the tab to turn on Call Control
    Customize Call Control
You can customize your preferences in My TELUS. These customizations include:

Adding numbers to your Accepted list, which ensures these callers always get through to you
Adding numbers to your Blocked list, which ensures these callers never get through to you

These suddenly started coming in a lot this week (~10/day) on my Rogers mobile, blocking and reporting seems to have made progress at least on those shifty buggers.

It's a different number every time, and with call screening I have to add the numbers I don't want to reach me to a list, or that's my understanding at least.

The numbers are all spoofed. So blocking one number is meaningless because that number will never call twice.

Call screen is a button you push when the phone rings to 1) silence the ringing and 2) allow legitimate callers to speak to you or leave a message.
    One button.

I just recently set this up on my parents’ land line. Telus calls it “Call Control”:

Seems to help, def recommend if you have elderly parents vulnerable to getting scammed.

Calm control is nice. If you are not with Telus or cannot set it up for some reason, call screen is available on your android cellphone without carrier involvement.

Anyone with Telus Call Control (home phone) getting spam calls that don't get caught?

I had 2 in a row yesterday and one this morning... weird thing is the calls aren't in the log so you can't block it and it also doesn't show up on caller ID.

It's like it's on their global whitelist!

It's those stupid Amazon "there's a problem with your order press 7 calls".... it leaves a message each time.

I turned off all the ringers but I don't want to have to clear out a million VMs.

Don't home phone numbers exist exclusively for spam? At least they did a decade ago when I still had one.

I'm a weirdo and I don't like using my cell as phone... actually I don't like phone calls at all!

Currently only paying $2/month which is probably why I still have it.

    I should probably @spikerS

edit: I get spam calls on my cell too so it not only a home phone problem...

I got a spam text this week that was pretty clever. It said "click here because you haven't claimed your Carbon Bucks" or whatever that rebate thing is called. Then below that it said "call us if you have any questions" and it actually had the correct phone# for CRA.

That and the fact that CRA has about 6 people answering the phones in the entire Winnipeg tax centre. Good luck getting through this lifetime.
