It was either a custom "Dodge Racing" decal or a Momo shift knob, both on my old Dodge Neon.

That pic was taken by my friends Mom in front of their house on California Blvd in Monterey Park. I grew up in Pineridge just off of 16th Ave and 68st, we definitely couldn’t afford to live in Monterey haha!

Man, to the people who's first mod was a turbo kit, H/C/I, etc, y'all were ballers at a young age. Skipped right past the racing-pedal splurge.

I just didn't bother until I had enough money to actually accomplish something. The cars I had from 16-18 were just stock and broken ass lol

    Good thread idea.

I built a 360 small block Dodge engine at 15 with plans to put it in an A body Dodge of some sort. If I recall correctly the engine had Keith Black 9.5-1 hypereutectic pistons, some sort of bigger camshaft, home ported cast iron cylinder heads, edelbrock intake manifold and a Demon carburetor. Davenport did the block machine work and I assembled the engine in the garage using a “How to rebuild a small block Dodge” book.

Once the engine was built I found a slant six ‘71 Duster for $800 and replaced quarter panels and painted it in high school Autobody class. Swapped in the engine, a 727 transmission, and an 8 3/4” rear differential and was driving it in grade 12.

Hard to believe I paid for everything myself while working at a gas station and or Mr. Lube part time through high school. I should try and find some old pics of the engine.

I have not been to that event, no.

I still like the old stuff but prefer when someone else owns it! The cool factor is high but even a fully modernized muscle car doesn’t drive anywhere close to a modern engineered performance car.

They don’t make them like they used to, and to me, that’s a good thing.

After building this car, my brother whooped me in his modded ‘87 Shelby Daytona. I sold the Duster and followed suit shortly after…

    1978 Honda Civic

I twisted the hood mounted windshield washer fluid jets to shoot sideways so I could squirt people I drove by (I was 15).

Yeah well I wonder how they get the soft flowing caramel inside the Caramilk bar but you don't see me making a god damn thread about it. Slap your wife Baygirl, straighten him out.
