I think they are blaming a surge of "unanticipated applications following the COVID-19 pandemic" that their normal service cant keep up with.
But they can rubber stamp passports within a day.

    Its complete bullshit.

To quote Mr Musk WFH is synonymous with pretending to work.

Such productivity. Very focus. Much government.

WFH gov't workers must be on 14.4 or behind some sort of firewall they've neglected to have dropped.

I feel like this is Huawei's 5G fault.

Yup.....We just got our kids done under the travel <48hrs. Had the app in for months now and they hadn't even scanned it in yet. We had to get new pictures, reapply under the emergency need thingy, and they got it done in less than 24 hrs. Its such trash they can't process passports

Alright, so I'm flying back to Canada for 4 weeks in June/July with the main purpose of renewing my passport. Just checked the appointments and the first one I can get isn't until August 3rd.

Do I understand correctly that the best thing I can do is go wait in line at Harry Hays stupid early in the morning with the hope of getting in?

Book a flight, a cheap refundable flight, then when it's less than 72h away, THEN stand in line.

Or just have no passport. Or speak to the consulate 8n whatever country you are currently in.

I have a flight back to Spain July 18 already.

Are they turning away people with flights more than 72h away and then forcing you to pay the extra $110 urgent fee?

I don't know what they are doing, but I suspect they aren't doing it well. You hear stories of people just not getting passports by any method.

I'm totally serious the consulate in your current country may be better. Canada is fucked.

Honestly I feel like paying the rush fee within 72hr is money well spent to not worry about this anymore.

I don't see how it would be better given they basically just mail passports from the consulate to Canada for processing and charge you an extra $140. Besides, I need the passport to travel to Canada in 3 weeks.

Guess I'll just need to go down to Harry Hays early when I arrive and see what BS they feed me.

Travel is contrary to Canadas climate goals comrade.

Plus monkey pox, and Tam was rambling on about a 7th wave yesterday.

Stay home. Stay safe. Do what Ottawa says. We are all in this together.

Rules are already changing. Rushed passport handling used to be 25 business days from travel as recently as 2 weeks ago when we renewed our daughters. Wife got told 14 days is the new deadline now, so they won’t even look at our file for another 2 weeks. Going to be interesting to see what happens, passport was supposed to be issued June 20th for travel in early July

Get ready to head to Harry Hayes. The deadlines they tell you are 100% not being met.
