Well I didn't realize that it was going to take this long for a passport and certainly didn't know I couldn't just renew my kids passport.

My travel date is October, went to book online and the next date for an appointment is July 8th. Wtf. Is there another way for kids under 16?

Sounds like someone could book a flight <10 days out and then cancel / reschedule... Beats going through the standard process and not knowing if you'll actually get a passport in 3 months

I'm curious about the 3 hour wait - was that from start to finish, or was it a 3 hour wait to pick up your expedited passport?

My personal best was 4 hours from start to finish... just moved, couldn't find passport (or birth certificate) the morning of my flight for a friend's wedding... bumped the flight to later that afternoon and made it in time for the rehearsal dinner.
I was told my appointment was at 1pm. I showed up right on time, but there was a huge fucking line outside. That wait was a good 30 minutes. Then I sat for 2 hours. Then it took another 30 minutes. Picked up Thi-thi subs, so wasn't all bad. haha.

That was on a Wednesday and I picked up the passport on Friday. We flew out on Sunday.

Pick up is at another office in the building. took 3 minutes.

This is what I did, but no appointment. Just went in early one morning to the south one, waited maybe 45 minutes.

Wife went to the crow child trail location at 730 and was 3rd in line.

Passport should be mailed back to us around June 20th but we were told to look into expediting around June 6th.

We were hoping to fly July 4th, which was 29 business days. But tue first available appointment for 25+ day travel plans was Huly 18th so that wasn’t much help.

FWIW - we heard they only take 30 walk ins at crowchiod trail, everyone’s appt based, so if they hit 30 walk ins by noon, everyone else is SOL for the day.

@colsankey this sounds eerily familiar. Have proof of passport expected delivery date. That same passport office said, no don't worry about paying for rush because it'll be there on that date.
This was right as passport backups were starting to get public.

FFWD to today. Still waiting. Cancelled our trip that we booked well beyond the delivery window in case of delay and most likely will have to take a day off work to sort that shit out so we can travel before fall.

I swear I could get a fake passport faster and less hassle. Haha

Can confirm this is same as Calgary.
Wonder if a trip to Yukon would garner a quicker turnaround time.

Only give out 5 passports a year and the CO2 impact of international air travel solves itself.

This is what the people want.

Next step will be to require 5 boosters to get on a plane, then don’t give anyone any boosters.

Climate emergency people. This is how liberal policy works.

I was trying to renew my kids passport, I did not feel like lining up at 6 am and since we have no travel plans so the system would not give me an appointment…

The guy at the passport office said I filled out papers correctly so I mailed it in … if it takes 3 months so be it

Has any reason been given for the change in service?

    Climate Emergency?

    Pandemic Emergency?

    LGTBBQ Emergency?

Pick whichever buzzword fits in with the mad lib.

    Probably Harper’s fault I’m sure.

I think they are blaming a surge of "unanticipated applications following the COVID-19 pandemic" that their normal service cant keep up with.

Their normal service is still working from home or on alternating schedules because of covid.
