    Default 06 Accord squeal diagnosis

    Need help. 2006 Honda Accord.
    Replaced brake pads, rotors, calipers.
    Replaced tie rod end.
Newer end links which I just took off and re tightened.

Where is this squeal coming from?
I grab parts underneath while this happens and the vibration can be felt in the lower control arm, tie rod ends, on the caliper.
Not on the upper ball joint though. Sometimes goes away for a few minutes but then back usually at low speed. Anything over 20km/h, it's gone. At full lock out its usually gone too.

I don't want to just randomly replace stuff if I can help it.

Things I think it could be. Lose rack and pinion, inner tie rod, something on the steering shafts. Possibly lower control arm?

    Video of the sound.

Is some part of your exhaust hitting the steering linkage? Is it just me that thinks that sounds like a vibration-y kind of squeal? Is there good clearance around all the moving parts up front? Nothing sagging down where it shouldn't?

Ball joints creak like that when they run out of lube

Just surprised it's a ball joint. The boots look good but someone told me the grease can get old too.

From the video it sounds like a high frequency hammering, something on the powetrain is touching something it shouldn't.
My vote is some exhaust hangers broke and the exhaust is banging on the front sub-frame/steering rack.

100% sounds like a ball joint with no grease. To test you can get a needle for a grease gun, and pierce the joints to pump some grease in and see if it cures your problem before just blindly replacing them.

I popped the boot and pumped in silicone lube. Sound gone.
    Definitely lower ball joint.

Will have to look into picking up a needle end for the grease gun.

Also a sign is the boot wasn't holding any of the silicone back. I get that it's not a perfect seal but given how it poured out, I suspect that's where the leak was and the grease was gone long before I knew about it.

Diagnosis is so frustrating, glad you know what it is. Now you can decide how urgently you want to replace, or if yid prefer to jist pump some grease in there once a month

I'm a replace it kinda guy.
Limping it works but my paranoia of a catastrophic failure overrides the ease of ghetto rigging.

I usually don't participate in internet mechanic threads, so glad I could help in this case

From what I recall on that one, you can just get the whole lower control arm with bushings and ball joint for next to nothing on rockauto. And it's a simple no fuss replacement that way. I had a 2003 Accord years back and did the entire front end, but don't recall the specifics exactly.

EDIT- NM, I lied. My curiosity made me go check. You have to remove the whole bloody spindle, and beat the old one out pretty hard. I do remember now that I swore a lot at those ball joints.

And do not use a propane torch to make separating a ball joint easier.

Haha. I thought the same thing as you. Some versions you can. This one no.

A buddy has a snap on ball joint tool. That should help on this. But it's not my favorite job. Rather be tossing new Ohlins or KW suspension on performance cars.
