As the Engineer - Climate Mitigation, you will provide the technical and management expertise on The City's technology, infrastructure, operations, programs, and services in support of the Climate Program (CP). Guide The City's Service Lines and the community in identifying and managing the risks of climate change; developing and implementing mitigation plans and actions under the CP; and facilitating strategic planning to incorporate climate change actions into policy development, project planning and implementation. Primary duties include:
Develop utility-facing programs for greenhouse gas reduction opportunities and subsequent economic models to support communities and business.
Coordinate and work directly with local energy utility companies to support The City’s long-term carbon reduction strategies.
Provide technical and business expertise for external funding and related requirements, to support and leverage projects related to climate and energy management.
Research, analyze and advise on renewable technologies that could benefit The City and citizens.
Provide guidance to planners, engineers and others in The City on building and development related energy opportunities.
Develop the CP specifically mitigation forecasting and preparation; carbon management; programs and strategies to support and integrate the climate actions into operational and business processes as well as in the community.
Support the development of corporate climate change mitigation; community programming; carbon, climate, and resiliency policies and governance.
Support the management of carbon reduction strategies in alignment with provincial and federal policies.
Advise Service Owners and Leaders to develop solutions and provide recommendations for carbon reductions.
Qualifications
A degree in Engineering, registration as a Professional Engineer in Canada, and current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or licensure by the first day of work.
At least 5 years of professional experience is required.
A graduate degree in science related to Climate change, Energy, Infrastructure, Environmental management, or Engineering will be considered an asset.
Access to a personal vehicle for occasional business purposes.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills are required for success in this role.
Working Conditions: Occasional site visits/field work may involve outdoor or hazardous conditions.

work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
