    Default Insurance Broker?

Anybody recommend a broker? not touchstone... i had them for several years and they decided to stop representing me and just work for Intact...

Is there such thing as a REAL broker that doesn't have an allegiance to one insurance company? one that actually works for you?

In the same boat as you. Been with Touchstone for a long time but I'm looking to explore other options at this point.

I use touchstone and they have me set up with pembridge as it was cheaper for my needs. Have y’all asked them to swap?

Yep, I ask every year when my renewal comes up. Got a one line email reply saying that other companies are higher. A relative was with them as well, they went directly to Intact and it was cheaper for them.

my situation is, about a year ago i bought a new house, i want overland flooding coverage on my house, Intact wouldn't offer that, it's some kind of exclusion zone nonsense, so they put me on RSA who did offer it at the time, RSA was bought by intact and just a couple weeks ago i got notification that i was being migrated back to intact and losing overland, i told them the whole reason i went through the mess of switching in the first place was to get away from intact and that specific policy, so no, i do not accept the changes and told them if they couldnt find me a place that could give me what i wanted i'd find another broker who could... and i didn't get any response.. so i assume that's them telling me they're unable or unwilling to get me what i want... i'm not going to chase or babysit anybody to do their job, i'll just find someone else.

Let us know who you find. That type of coverage can be difficult.

TD Provides me overland flood coverage. Not that I will ever need it.

It’s not cheap (~$500 a year for 100k of coverage with a significant deductible) and has a relatively low maximum lumped in with other kinds of water and sewer backup.

Chubb use to offer overland. I tried to get them to underwrite my house and they laughed. Apparently they had significant payouts in 2013 in my area.

I ended up with the Cooperators. Overland flooding coverage add on of about $700k costs me $1800 or so per year. You can get a quote from them directly from the local brokerage offices.

In my experience Chubb is the best insurer around. Family have had some major loses and they came through big time. We had a total loss of a cottage, a cheque for the replacement cost of house and contents was issued within weeks of the loss at very favorable values. You may pay 10- 20% more in premiums but it is worth the peace of mind in knowing that they will come through when needed. Many of the cheaper underwriters will grind you and come up short when you need them.

Insurance like everything: you get what you pay for. In saying this I am now questioning the quality of my current overland policy with Co-operators, lol.

I feel the same about Touchstone and their allegiance with Intact. I just moved from Touchstone to Cooperators specially due to RSA sucking balls from a customer service aspect and having to go back to Intact. RSA is the absolute worst and Intact isn't much better.

    Have you tried the cooperators?

Me too. I swapped because some companies wouldn't insure my vehicle with over 500hp so they switched me to Pembridge without an issue.

We got that run around last year from the broker we were with after the actual price to register the F150 was double what they quoted and $1000 higher than the wife's RAV4 with Wawanesa... (turns out he only priced out the rest of the term).

I ended calling around and switched everything myself and saving that $1000 with another company they were a broker for anyways all because he was too lazy/incompetent.
I get a feeling some brokers won't bother unless they're getting their cut (all the old place wanted to do was push Wawa/Intact).

I’ll be renewing next month, currently with RSA/Touchstone.

Hopefully the pricing is the same then I’ll stay.

Just called TD to add our basement development to our home policy and they want to jack our rates by ~30%.

$1150/year up to $1550. Told them they were nuts, no way thats right. Fuck those guys, any recommendations for a good broker? Also want to switch my auto policys if possible.

I called TD last week to swap a vehicle on my policy for another one and they ended up somehow affecting my home policy and now it’s $84 a year more. I was not happy.

just got my quote back from touchstone, moved my home insurance from pembridge to intact, my auto is already with intact, total, saved me about 25$ a month, i'll take it for now. there are no cancellation fees with intact, told me they'll look at insurances again in september to see if there are any better deals at taht time.
