Question House of Cars Park and Sell program?

Aside from all the clowns in Kijiji, I keep receiving this message from multiple Kijiji accounts:

"Hi, my name is Mo, Im reaching out from House of Cars. Not with the intention of lowballing, or trying to sell you anything. I just wanted to tell you about our Park and Sell Program.
Essentially we advertise your vehicle and sell it on your behalf, at the price you set. We do Not take a percentage of the sale and with the added perks of buying from a dealer, finance options, extended warranties, etc
We've been running this program since 2020 and have had tremendous success, and I am confident that we can sell your vehicle for you very quickly.
If you would like to know a little bit more about the program, please give me a call at 403-991-4948"

What is the advantage of myself handing the keys to them to sell my vehicle?

Do you legally give your vehicle to them to test drive with buyers? What about insurance on accidents or other issues?

Do they honor the price offered or do you have to jump through hoops to get your cash once it's sold?

Thank you very much for reading!

    Jay

I'm guessing they are using this to drive customers to thier finance program, which is the real business there. I woukd expect they handle you and your car reasonably professionally.

^ Exactly it. HOC is a loan business. You can't even buy a car off their lot with cash.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

I sold my Audi S3 on their park and sell, It was less than $500 and they sold it quick! I think it took about a week after they sold it to get my money from them.

When I had my BMW up for sale I had a company asking me to add their link to my autotrader ad. I was selling private and just didn't want prospective buyers to get the impression I was associated with the company in any way. I know my car will sell with or without their help so why would I put their information in my ad if there's nothing in it for me?

I'm no arcticcat airbnb businessman, but this looks like free outdoor winter storage.

    1) Park car.
    2) Set very unreasonable ask price.
    3) Intermittently complain to HOC that your car hasn't sold.
    4) Drop price to an unreasonable ask price.
    5) Come back May of next year. Bring @Mar to sort your car battery out.
    5) Yell, "deal is off! You didn't sell it in a whole winter!?"
    6) Drive off.

This program is really genius. They take a fee plus any "admin" charges they charge to the buyer but also have a ton of inventory on their lot they can redirect too and its all money with no risk.

I had a few house of cars people contact me on kijiji too. I didn’t go through with it as I didn’t want to pay a fee, have it sit on a lot for weeks and have the risk of those sales bros and tire kickers bagging the shit out of my car.
Sold it a few days later.

I could see this being a very attractive program for the right seller. The issue with trying to sell a "used" car in the $50K - $75K range is that most buyers at that price point don't have / can't pay cash so they will pay more through a dealer just to access financing. This arrangement solves that problem.

This is what that one company was trying to sell me on that I would have a difficult time trying to find a buyer that would have $90k kicking around for my vehicle. I ended up selling the vehicle like 3 days later. If your vehicle is desirable and in excellent condition it will usually always sell especially in today's market. IMO this is more beneficial for vehicles that are higher mileage in average or worse condition where you have to depend on buyers that want a vehicle like you are selling but can't afford it. They aren't going to be as picky because they can't afford to be.

$400 detail job and the vehicle is so shiny that it's literally difficult to photograph.
    Will sell to first looker.
