    Default Simple RAM question.

What kind of ram is this? Thinking of splashing out and increasing the 2x4gb in the family desktop if it's cheap.
    Looks like DIMM form factor.

What's a cheap 1x16gb stick that would be a drop in replacement?

Imo better to start with what mobo you have to determine compatibility… than try to match ram that may or may not have been ideally suited for the computer.

OK cool. I didn't build this computer, so I don't have that info, where do I find it?

I’m guessing it’s stamped on it somewhere

Just a run of the mill DDR4 stick of desktop ram.

    Either grab another 4gb stick for 8gb or grab 2 x 8gb ddr4 desktop ram for 16gb

    The PC4-2133P gives it away

    odd speed

you could get this and it will underclock to the speed of your other RAM
    https://www.amazon.ca/Patriot-Memory.../dp/B074Q1R8TB

    or get this
    https://www.amazon.ca/Timetec-2133MH.../dp/B01NCYSLXH

if budget allows it, I would go 16GB though

PC4=DDR4, the speed (2133) really doesnt matter unless you're building a high performance machine, it'll be compatible with other speeds, it'll just clock down to the lowest speed in the set.

Also you need to look up your board, some stuff you need certian configurations, most you need pairs, some you need to populate a certian slot first and another second, some you need to have certain size configurations, lots of crazy rules... the good thing is, worst case if it's a DDR4 board and you throw it in is that it'll just beep at you and not work, you pull it out again and it will be fine on your old config.

It's not the size that matters, it's the taste it leaves in your mouth.

Is this good enough for motherboard info?

I can't find any info on that. If it's just a case of buying 2 sticks of 8gb and 2666 speed is fine, then that's good and I'll just do that.

Be careful with systems like Lenovo and the likes as they have a tendency to do some janky crap with their BIOS and only allow certain ram types and sizes to work properly.

    But 2x8gb should work fine.

if it's a prebuild it's probably easier to search by the machine model number than try to figure out the Mobo model.

    or use Lenovo's tool. https://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/sol...am-information

Yeah this was a very cheap system, which gets very light usage. I think this is the City of Calgary surplus desktop I paid $120 for in 2016. if $60 of RAM gets me another couple years, I'm doing great with it.
Have probably pent more per year on keyboard replacements.
