I know food has jumped like 100% in the last 2 years, but damn it really hit home when I used the self checkout today. 6 oranges, almost 13$. 2$ for a single orange seemed ridiculous. The thing is I couldn't tell you what an orange costed a year ago, or ever for that matter.

Makes you wonder what formula they use for inflation calculation? The main things you need to live, Food, housing, gas, utilities. All up like 30-50% on average....................... Inflation.... 8.6%

I've been meaning to talk to my Dad about this. He survived the early 90's, I remember my parents always being broke as shit, and doing everything they could to squeeze a dollar out of the grocery bill. I was wondering how long it took his job to cough up the massive pay hikes to even out inflation. Crazy that I'm here in the exact same full circle situation 30 years later. And that it was all orchestrated by the last idiots kid.
Usually energy and shelter are not included in inflation calculations.

Except nobody would know since the formula is some uber secret that us peons can't be concerned about. Even for CPI it's like a super ambiguous calculation, like just asking random people on the street what they think some house in front of them would rent for. Or they'll use mortgage payment instead of average house price, since that way they can mask inflation with low interest.

CPI is not necessarily inflation though, as it just tracks consumer spending. Although it plays a role in how the government massively understates inflation. If people on average start purchasing far more pork than beef for example, but their spending doesn't much change. The government uses this metric to say "Look, zero inflation because people aren't spending more". When in reality, people have drastically switched their point of purchase for the express purpose that they cannot afford beef due to the inflation of those prices. They're spending the same money for an inferior product.

It surprises me how little the average person knows about economics.

    This is a good intro.

Keep in mind, grocery chain profits are now double what they were even pre pandemic.

One example to clue you in to the major driver behind this "inflation".

Not if you want a happy life it isn't.
This is a relationship philosophy that comes with a 100% forecast of ending in divorce.

In any relationship there is compromise but on a separate note to this topic, I never truly understand when it is super one sided to the wife.

Well it's a flashing neon sign for unhealthy selfish entitlement regardless of which person it applies too but 100% of people I've ever known who actually believe(d) the idiom "Happy wife happy life" have/have had terrible lives and are miserable. Especially after the alimony eventually gets sorted out hahaha

If your spouse does not see the relationship as equal you are better without them.

You guys are confusing happy wife happy life with let the wife run wild.

The issue with all humans and not just wives is they don't know what happiness is, and if it's really required.

Fulfilment is the key. Not happiness.

It’s called a ban. But they have a habit of not sticking.
