Default Living in the industrial area - Discuss

I know housing affordability is an issue, so this seems like a creative solution. People are parking motorhomes and trailers in industrial areas and living in them. I see these guys all over town, near my work, and this pic is from near my favourite fuel retailer. This individual has solar power, wind turbine, and appears also to have a wood stove. The wood stove is really common as it allows them to burn pallets and other garbage to generate heat in winter. Seems like a large fire hazard, but what do I know?

Not as amazing as the old "van down by a river" maybe.
Is this an issue, does it bother you, and generally, discuss:

You realize you are talking to the guy who made his own furniture out of salad bowls right?

Vanlife finally catching on in Canada. Two 400 watt panels go a long way.

Think it’s becoming a major issue in some US cities.

Was hoping this thread was more of the “rich tech mogul converts warehouse into secret batcave” than poors in poor mobiles. Guess it’s still better than squatting in uhauls. Rented one from Blackfoot location once and you could still smell the hobo and lucky lager

There used to be more of them along that stretch but that guy has been there the longest.

    Why complicate things.

I have 2 people in my neighborhood that rent a part of their big yard to motorhomes. They just plug into an extension cord.

I want pics from that guy who bought the abandoned bunker on Nose Hill. Although they nullified the sale?

Out here it is the norm. Drive through Burnaby (or any industrial area really) and you will see an endless line of motorhomes and RV's. Many have set up camp permanently. Its nuts.

Hell, even take a drive through Point Grey, keep an eye out, and you will quickly spot cars that don't belong. Some have the front windshield covered up as it gets dark. You've got campers amongst Canadas richest people. Balling views in that neighborhood. Safety too.

Have seen a few of these parked off Barlow and Centre, might even be where the pic was taken. Seems like these dudes have some good permanent setups. Wood stoves in a motorhome #lavish

At the start of the lockdown, there was a family of 5 living in the parking lot of the T&T in Deerfoot Meadows for close to 8 months. 3 little kids with the oldest being maybe 7, ripping their bikes daily in an active construction site. Good times and I’m sure must have been some sort of tragic story behind it.

So is this legal then if its properly registered? Or is it one of those "sure its illegal but its more hassle to move them than it is to leave them" type deals?

The answer to the housing affordability crisis is greatly loosening zoning restrictions. But this is a bit much.

Although, if people are going to go all NIMBY about industrial areas, then that's some serious karen shit.
