In Calgary this is illegal for several reasons. Such as:
Traffic Bylaw 26M96:
17.1: Can't park an RV anywhere except immediately adjacent to your residence
17.2: Can't park an RV longer than 36h anywhere.
Parking bylaw 41M2002
8.2.a: you can't park vehicles for more than 72h. (this is frequently done in residential areas, but remains illegal regardless)
I'm sure there is a bylaw about sleeping in your vehicle but I can't find it.

Calgary's zoning and development approval process is a total cluster fuck of fuckery.
I personally look forward to building a 15 story tower on my lot

Honestly, this still seems better than Airdrie.
Karen's would buy the dirt cheap housing property in an industrial area, and then fight tooth and nail to have the industries shut down. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Down in my neck of the woods (Midnapore business area, not the community per se) one is living in a pick-up truck that has been slightly camperized (home-made, OSB etc.) That's better than the pallet walls that the other people construct on the adjacent properties (one is a disused fire hall, one is an active dance studio and car wash). They even had a BBQ going in a garbage can one day, on the fire hall property. City cleared them out the next day and now they are on the dance studio property on the opposite side of my building. I would rather the homeless be in RVs than the way they are. Considering where we are in the city, there is a surprising amount of homeless people around.
I mean, having lived in condo style apartments most of my adult life and then moving to an acreage only to move back to a condo I can see how this would be appealing.
$200k condo vs $200k 45' pusher or a massive travel trailer and diesel pickup.
The loophole to get around the parking issue is to park at walmart. As far as I know, they condone overnight parking.

Considering I can still go an hour north of Edmonton and get 80 acres with a house on it for 300k, I'm a far way off of living in a motorhome parked in a back alley. Worst case scenario, could always go get a shanty in Bruderheim for like 175k. Still have full size grocery stores just 10 min down the road.
Its the new generation. And its not really fair to blame GenX either, if *I* was head of NASA I'd hire you all and then just declare bankruptcy.
As is, many in GenX have no power to hire anyone other than a stripper for a birthday party.
The transition to 15 watts per mile may hit a lot of resistance though. Especially now that Hoover dam no longer produces power, but will consume power to keep the water flowing to the cities and farmer fields. Vanlife may be the correct life choice at this particular point in time, get a big battery for sure though.
