Default 2006 Jetta TDI - sounds like tractor, other stuff too.

A family member has a 2006 Jetta TDI as a beater. MIL is illuminated, engine idles rough, seems to have decent power when driving, no obvious smoke.

Mechanic says brake fluid needs flushing, and I think that is clutch fluid also in this car. Clutch is a bit funny, but haven't driven a lot of these to know what's normal
Hell who has a manual anymore?
Needs new rear shocks or struts or whatever those are as well, along with a couple small things.

@mr2mike or anyone else do vw? Just want someone I trust to have an honest look and not give the five page repair report that the local shop sent.

    I can test drive it.
Not sure on CEL light reset or reading. Seemed like vw locks it out for most generic readers. Those VW's would pop an engine light for every little thing so you're having to hit the dealer. Oil changes, anything can set it off.

Yeah, I have a generic OBDII reader, haven't even hooked that up, probably a good first step.

You need VAGCOM to do the simplest things on anything newer than about 2001, even bleeding the fecking brakes

I think you can still buy the cable from Ebay and torrent the cracked software, I know a friend of mine did this, but that was a while ago

I'm sure you can. I did that and have that for BMW's.
It's actually pretty crazy what the software allows you to do. Auto pump the brake MC for bleeding, check engine sensors, etc.

Anything VW I'm sure Concept 1 can help you out with a general inspection/diagnosis

Is it a BEW (mk4) or BRM (mk5)?

VCDS is inexpensive, I’d just buy a 3-VIN cable for a couple hundred bucks and support the company.

They’re easy to sell when you’re finished with them, too.

If they can wait until August, I’ll be back from the USA and can scan it with my cable for free.

Otherwise, 40323TUNED is the right # to call.
