Rent seeking and middlemen with no value added is not a free market. You do understand that the dealership model is a GOVERNMENT regulation that was forced on industry? Nobody wants it except for dealerships because they'd all go out of business tomorrow. Manufacturers may like it for the separation it gives them from end users, but overall it seems like a giant pain in the uncut dick.

As for people expecting discounts and bitching about over msrp, this is all horseshit. I've never met a person who likes the dealer experience. Imagine buying virtually anything else in a similiar fashion/business model? When we do, its usually seen as a scam.
Again, that isn't what the definition of free market is.... What you have posted is irrelevant to what free market economy means. Dealer is a sales outlet. Where you go and buy cars. Kind of like Gas stations, or walmart.
Do you feel that Walmart is a evil "middle man"? because it is. It buys at "invoice", sells goods at a price that it sets. It sets the price at whatever it wants to meet the demand, that's what a free market economy is... It doesn't get any simpler than that

Could anyone imagine if Real Estate Agents took deposits and then kept taking higher offers and played it like a car dealer?

Dealer entered into a contract. Deposit taken.

Try the other way in a few months when they can't give cars away.
    Get the price agreed, deposit.
Come back a few days later and demand they sell for lower due to lack of demand.
    Bet they threaten with something.

They've held that deposit and 20 others and made money off it.
You've gotten it back and actually lost!
    Time value of money.
    Depends on the contract.

Also, I just assume that if I leave a deposit, the deposit is gone.

Government regulation is NOT free market economics, the reason dealerships exist is because of GOVERNMENT regulation. Notice how I said "value added". Walmart serves a purpose, do you understand what the fuck a middleman is or what the term rent seeking means?

What value does Walmart bring other than to create profit. Or any retailer for that matter.

I feel you both (Killy and Team) have valid points. I like Killy 's point about a gatekeeper, though. There is something artificial about one person in the value chain taking all the profits.
I think the overall issue is more complex because car pricing is based more on their portfolio of models rather than a set margin on each unit. So when they charge as much as the inflated market will bear on a temp basis on one model, they are distorting the market.

AMVIC actually helped me get a deposit back from Courtesy Chrysler back in 2016, it wasn’t even hard to do, everything was done by email, they asked for documentation I had about the transaction and then a few weeks later I get my deposit back. Different scenarios I know, but might be worth a shot.
These fucks tried to screw me too around 2016-2017. Left a deposit on a used car, a week later hadn’t heard when I could take delivery, call back and they say they wholesaled it instead, and that my deposit was good towards another car. I told them to get fucked and refund me asap, was a lot of back and forth and I eventually went down there and went ballistic in the showroom to get my deposit back.

In a brief moment of lack of judgement, I took my wife into a Chrysler dealership once. She didn't get past the doors and then got grumpy with me for taking her to such a low class place.

I haven't been in a Chrysler dealer since, and I'm happy for that.

This information combined with her being of Ukrainian heritage is a real mindfuck for me. I've connected these dots before as it's all been previously disclosed but now here it is again, slapping reality right in the face.

Right now I am trying to get a refund on a warranty package from a dealer. I canceled within 24 hours but going on 3 weeks now haha

The best dealership I have dealt with is Lexus of Calgary so there are some good ones out there. Okotoks Honda is another one I often hear great things about. None of the scummy dealer stuff.

You love the attention, don't kid yourself

Buster just hates that someone will challenge his opinion vs sucking his dick. My points were very inline with Killramos', yet he gives me shit because Killy will suck his e-peen 9/10 times and just stay silent the other 1/10.

But as Beyond is known for, would rather attack the poster then the idea. McLaren has made the dumbest post on basic economics short of Toma or Yolo, and nobody has given him shit for doubling down on idiocy.

To act like the market responding to gov intervention is the free market at work is astoundingly wrong. First principles indeed.

I like this idea where a market that's restricted to once group of buyers is thought of as a free market, and that artificially constricting supply is a cornerstone of it.

I ordered a new vehicle in January, got here last week and they devalued my trade in $6500 from original agreement. They were surprised when I turned down the deal

Dealers get away with stuff like this until you get a persistent individual that will fight you tooth and nail to the end. If there is substance, I really hope shaka sticks it to them and at the very least cause them a bunch of headaches. Fuck em.
