My Acura has the collision detection thing that will auto apply the brakes if it thinks I'm too close. I can remember 2 distinct occasions where (1) car slammed on the brakes & (2) car didn't yeild and pulled in front of me. As I went to swerve around them, it slammed on the brakes and just about got me creamed in the left lane.
The one with the yeild sign had me shitting bricks cause there was a semi on his horn and air brakes that wouldn't have been able to stop had I not jammed the gas through the auto braking.

I like the idea of the 2010 Amish community. Just enough tech (Bluetooth/backup cameras), but none of this other safety shit

The average in Alberta will be high. Drivers that get into accidents get punished mightily here - as they should.

Yea, those are nothing close to my rates with TD. I’ll have to login and check tmr. From memory, $1200 for the sienna, $1100 for the E53, $700 for the Sentra, $650 for the Miata. All full coverage, and I also have 1 conviction expiring next year.
I was close. Got 3 cars right. The e53 convertible is actually much more, at $1600. The $1100 number was for the e53 coupe, my last car. Looks like the big price jump is the 4 year replacement value coverage, probably because the car is well over $100k. Full glass coverage too, as well as touring package which gives me a rental if I get in an accident. Not sure why I need that with so many cars. Gonna get it removed which should chop off another $100 a car.

I'd love to be able to check my insurance but it looks like Intact is down.

They probably use Rogers datacenters. Puke.

Anyhow, about $1K for each vehicle.

Not to mention I imagine coverage, mileage, and crash statistics vary significantly between Alberta and Europe.
Kind of the entire point of my original post, isn't it?

I honestly have no idea what the point of your original post was. Here I thought you were just bitching about insurance being a ripoff here.

To sum it up: better driver training, better driver awareness (including warnings of excessive speeding as in the OP), and mandatory safety features (seat belts, airbags, daytime running lights, etc.) reduce collisions, deaths, injuries, and insurance rates.

I'm definitely not a "big government" person but I don't think people realize just how dangerous driving is and I don't mind some government oversight so that some donkey doesn't T-bone me at 150km/hr.

$2000 is substantially more than $600 - and it's not even clear if that's for full coverage in Alberta.

These are out to lunch, IMO.

I typically switch at least one of my cars out annually, so I've insured a pile of different cars over the last few years. Ranges from $123/yr (collector insurance on my SL500) to ~$1300/yr (full coverage on my GX460, which is apparently like the third most stolen vehicle in Canada).

Not sure what Spain did but I'm sure they have laws and regulation similar to Quebec to keep insurance low. (ie, limit on pay outs)

But for every Quebec, you have ICBC where government mismanagement also doesn't save you $.

THIS, also can't believe people can get away with driving without insurance too. Got t-boned by someone that was a hit and run, and the cops found them but they had no insurance.
trying is the first step towards failure

Do you also hate the mandatory use of seat belts?
Trick question? Yes! Obviously. I wear the thing because it is smart to do so, I don't need the government mandating it to me and having their jackboots use it as a revenue generator. If someone doesn't want to wear it, then fuck em, that's their choice.

You think the revenue from seat belt tickets outweighs the cost of ambulance/rescue for those in accidents who don't wear them?

You think the cost of shoveling people off the ground, outweighs the medical costs from people wearing seatbelts that get injured instead of dead?

The cost is irrelevant to the issue. But I'd be happy to eat the cost on the one issue that government overreach actually saved money somehow, if I could get back the savings on every other bloody thing.

    ZOMG!! Government overreach!!!

Seatbelts and insurance and not speeding!!!

    Omg!!!!

    Government overreach!!!

This is why it now says "don't drink the battery acid".

And soon to be added. "DONT DRINK BLEACH".
