I have a ThinkPad x1 carbon that is great until the fan stops and overheats. Excuse to turn the teams video off though.

Yeah the x1 carbon is too thin and doesn't dissapate heat well.
Everyone should shoot a can of air into the vents and fans once a year to see if that helps the airflow.

Seems like cold comfort but everyone is struggling with this. Thanks for the comments everyone.

Bought the same MBP for the wife and couldn't believe how fast it is. Great laptop. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
All of our company laptops are high end, 64gb, high end video card to enable tethered VR in our 3D models. I use my MBP to remote into my desktop. I gave up using windows on a mac a long time ago.

The filthy stuff in OneDrive people thought was private.
Well, I can get an upgrade if I want, but I'm not sure if I want it.
Current: Thinkpad X390. i5-8365u quad core, 8gb. 120gb hdd
Optional upgrade: Dell 7330 i5-1245u 10-core, 16gb. 256gbSSD
Seems obvious spec-wise to go with the dell, but the last Dell I had a few years ago was a POS hardware-wise. The thinkpad, despite being a shitbox spec-wise has been awesome from a hardware perspective.
If I tough it out for another quarter or two I might have more options for replacement (or maybe not).
WWBD?
If you're allowed to run your own image, get a compact build for max performance (something like Ghost Specter). Do your due diligence (don't get your shit h4x0rd) but it has been a game changer on my lite builds. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

The X5 i bought earlier this year really is FULLY LOADED though not a single option missing including infrared night driving
That is definitely not an option. I work for a Fortune 500 company that has an insane amount of bureaucracy haha. You get what you get. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
My last dell was totally fine. Still kicking ( I gave it to my wife’s sister who needed a pc to run engg software in university).
Even a 256GB ssd is poverty

My last dell had its screen polarized in the wrong direction for my sunglasses… then the battery ballooned up, replacement is a thinkpad, it will not charge with the dell doc, or it will but then it doesn’t extend the screens… plug and unplug till you get what you want… it’s also been dog shit when in teams meetings, seems worse when I host but like clockwork about 5min into the meeting I get a bad connection.. every single time. Wasn’t an issue on the dell. But hey! At least I can work outside again when it’s nice out
Indeed. But I don't really store anything locally, so it's inconsequential. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
My thinkpad is polarized the wrong direction as well. It definitely puts a damper on working outside, however I just resort to taking teams calls on my cell haha. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
hard drive size is the least important spec for anything I do. My powerpoints aren't filling up many gigs.
Also Lenovo ThinkPad here. I have a warranty fan issue getting fixed, but the biggest piss off for me is what's essentially a non-standard keyboard. The [Ctrl] button goes in the bottom left corner, you stupid cream jockeys!!!This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Now I'm wasting time with my dainty pinkie wondering why Ctrl+X and Ctrl+V isn't doing shit.
Assholes!
Oh yeah! Forgot about that one (use a real keyboard most of the time because dock) but yeah! Fucking pricks.
My tan was constantly on but seems better after the bios update they pushed out
I'm so used to coding on my mac that I hit Alt+C and Alt+V to copy/paste on my PC now.

Yeah Lenovos seem to have that across the board. I honestly can't imagine why anyone would like it and yet they keep on keeping on

I'm using a Lenovo x1 Carbon G9 with the i7 and 16GB of RAM. The thing I hate about these the most (aside from the evil function key location) is non upgradable memory. 16GB of RAM just isn't enough when you memory hogs like Microsoft Teams + Excel + Google Chrome.
Also, the Carbon 9's have issues with the power management at the firmware or hardware level. Lots of reports of them not charging at all new out of the box, or charging so slow that it'll consume more power than what it can take in.
My Dell dock charges it sufficiently, but it complains that it's a slower charge than what it came with. Then I snap its Fn key off and show it to its camera until it shuts up.
