My BIL is a military man and also a farmer. His train of thought on the subject is interesting because of the dichotomy in the opposing lifestyles politics. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Also not surprising the importance he places on Alberta needing a military to separate and that we couldn't fund it. I showed him that transfer payments and CPP contributions alone would allow us to have a military budget the same size as Canada.
Just the clean fuels act and lowering nitrogen emissions will decimate our economy, let alone tripling the carbon tax. This is all getting past the point of being absurd to just outright insanity.

The problem is that the incoming generations are so fixated on climate change that they are totally willing to destroy their chances of a quality life and prosperity for a largely futile cause. I have no issue with being more efficient with energy and reducing pollution but the issue is that anything Canada does doesn't really matter in the big picture as the big polluters are still the big polluters and they aren't willing to cut of their nose to spite their face like Canada is when it comes to our economy. What other country on the planet is so fixated on destroying its own economy so they can pat themselves on their back on the world stage that is largely laughing at us behind our back? What's going on in this country is complete madness and a lot of Canadians seem to be totally fine with that. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I don't think there are that many Canadians hell bent on climate action to sacrifice the economy, they are just very vocal and are backed by liberal media. You don't hear this climate change garbage outside the starbucks of toronto or vancouver. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I hope there will be a combine and harvester convoy to Ottawa, you can't just tow those massive fuckers.
OR, just ignore these fed gov climate policies on oil, gas and agriculture.
Ontario and Eastern farmers use more fertilizer per hectare than out West (longer growing season = more apps) so it’s not like they aren’t affected by this. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
As affected by a non-mandatory and unenforceable policy can be, anyway.

Canadians are only fine with it because we’re just barely feeling the effects. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
In another 7-10 years when the reality of these policies matures, it’ll be a different story.
I can hardly believe my eyes on our current path.

Am a farmer. If this goes through as its described I'll be toast.
Sure glad we spent $400K on a drill that specifically places fertilizer in the most efficient way possible, or that we've spent three years fine-tuning a split application process to minimize leaching.
Why should I do anything environmentally friendly if Trudeau's just gonna come in and blanket mandate forced reductions? At the very least they need to come up with a system that gives us credit for the things we're already doing.
Conservatives need to get their shit in line and give Trudeau the boot. I just don't see that happening either.
Interested how all these policies are being enforced. Are there Climate Farm Enforcement Officers ensuring your poop is in order? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
They aren’t going to be enforced. This is a virtue signalling policy (and not a good one since there isn’t much to be gained politically for them while painting a huge target on their back). It’s not mandated reductions and there aren’t any mechanisms in place to actually enforce it. Ask farmers to self-report any excess fertilizer use and then come receive their punishment? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Who are they virtue signalling to?This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
The champagne socialists that flocked over to the NDP, presumably. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
My understanding is it doesn't come into effect until 2027(?) and is relative to 2020 levels so there’s still lots of time. Granted I haven’t kept up in the latest, thats what the story was last summer. It’d be easy to make the vendors track fertilizer sales. I have hope its just a classic empty Trudeau promise and will fade away to obscurity by then. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Edit: Oh I see, its emissions and not total volume now. And by 2030. Seems like the virtue signaling is already stepping back a bit so thats a good thing I guess.

While leaving is one option a better solution within confederacy is to ally ourselves better with the entire west. I think the only outcast we have from that currently is BC. I think if we aligned ourselves across the west politically it could be quite a potent force. BC to me seems a lot like Quebec, if we shared a disproportionate chunk of the wealth they would come along, although I am not sure if the economic growth that would come with this political movement could be worth that kind of money.
What western Canada (and most of Canada for that matter) is void of is strong leadership. No Premiere past Manitoba is of the kind of character that could accomplish this. I would really appreciate this sort of leadership, don't care from what Province.
