90% of the land mass of BC would join a western coalition. But that's the empty 90%. I don't know a way to accomplish this without somehow splitting BC apart first.

My BIL is a military man and also a farmer. His train of thought on the subject is interesting because of the dichotomy in the opposing lifestyles politics.

Also not surprising the importance he places on Alberta needing a military to separate and that we couldn't fund it. I showed him that transfer payments and CPP contributions alone would allow us to have a military budget the same size as Canada.

Just the clean fuels act and lowering nitrogen emissions will decimate our economy, let alone tripling the carbon tax. This is all getting past the point of being absurd to just outright insanity.
Curious your thoughts on how the clean fuels act will decimate the economy?

As we Albertans always talk about, let's use stuff locally to get better value for it.... I can't help but think using some canola for renewables would be a positive for Canadian farmers vs shipping it to the US or China

It's bad firm to publically pray for the big Cascadia earthquake to take the lower mainland into the sea. So say that quietly.

No way to do it without permanently tacking on a 30% price increase to fuel. Ethanol is cheap, but it basically has a direct correlation on worse mpg. I bet going to 15% ethanol (all cars can handle that as max) will show a 3-5% drop in mpg. Let alone how badly biodiesel screws up diesel trucks and semis.

So I guess between increased fuel useage and costs, that's where I'd come to 30%. Further to that, we'd be displacing Alberta processed oil products with ethanol importation from the USA or more crops here would go corn, but then our local ethanol price would go up further.

I'm all for being cleaner and more environmentally friendly. Existing is damaging to the environment. Technological solutions will allow us to mitigate our emissions much more effectively then simply curtailing energy useage.

Dumb. Liberals seem to love these highly targeted measures that don't directly impact their core voters.

Why not shut down auto manufacturers? Or dairy, or lobster fishing?

It's amazing how focused people get on the facade that is carbon emissions, just because someone says they're environmentally conscious. If anyone actually cares about the environment it's pollution that they should be concerned about.

Way back in the 1970's they had some scientists saying that ammonia fertilizer would end up destroying all vegetation on the planet.

That was the same time they were talking nuclear winter where we would all freeze to death.

Nah, overpopulation is always the root cause. The solution is simply not palatable to living people.
