I don't know much about infotainment systems, and even less about how various manufacturers implement things, but I was under the impression that once you had android auto running, it was all phone data and phone apps. If GM has some other apps that exist outside that ecosystem, that sounds like a GM issue. What apps are these anyway?

Although now that I think of it, GM selling data plans makes a ton if sense, could be a huge profit centre for them.
GM is implementing Google Automotive like Volvo. IE, handover the whole infotainment stack to Google running a version of Android designed for cars.

Cars are cell phones on wheels these days, even if it's not an EV. So if they can lock you into their own ecosystem like Tesla, it makes it harder for you to switch brands. Extra $14/mth like what Tesla charges for premium connectivity is cherry on top.

AA performance highly depends on the phone you got. CP performance while better due to better hardware, it's tied to a pretty useless assistant.

A car Android OS that is attached to your main Google environment would be amazing. I'd pay way more than 14 bucks for that

If you phone is how you signal your status, then that's a pretty sad comment on the fragility of your ego.
We had the answer with Windows phones but fuckin nerds wouldn't use it.

Android Auto = Basically screening mirror off your phone.

Android Automotive = Open Source version of Android for cars. Everyone can use it for free.

Google Automotive Service = Based on Android Automotive with full G Maps, Assistant and Play (so app store).

GM/Volvo/Renault/Honda is/will be running the full suite with GAS with app store.

Rivian/Stellentis/Ford/BMW/VAG will be running the open source Android Automotive without app store.

Has anybody seen any of these at a dealership yet? Any chance one would have a demo model available for test drive?

None are shipping to Canada yet, though many are built. There were some delays with the EPA certifying the official fuel mileage info for the different engine tunes AFAIK. I ordered mine back in November and it's been built for nearly two months now, no idea when it's actually going to ship, let alone arrive.

Whelp, I'm out. After months of delays there was some salt rubbed in the wound. I've cancelled my order for a Canyon AT4 and went with something else.

Ended up getting something way out of left field After showing my wife a Canyon and us realizing just how small those back seats actually are, we were really on the fence, the delays just sealed the deal. I needed something that could safely tow my car hauler, was decent on fuel (when not towing) and smaller than a full-size truck (the wife hated parking the truck). At this price point, there weren't many other options. We picked up a new Pathfinder SL Premium. Checks all the boxes we needed checked and I was honestly very pleasantly surprised with the interior. They also finally ditched the CVT and went with a ZF Trans.

rated to tow 6000 lbs, that's not bad at all. Let us know how you like it with your car hauler.

I had no idea Nissan finally ditched that god damn slushbox. It's about time.

One thing I will say in defense of the CVT is I had an altima as a rental car once... holy fuck did that thing get good mileage in the city

Can't tow enough. My trailer with the Supra on it is a hair over 5000lbs, I wanted to have a decent buffer over that to account for payload.
