In general, the NE/SE is THE spot where any Range Rover over 7 years old goes to quietly die in some backyard. Why do lower wage earners buy these things anyway? Just want to look balller? do people actually look at a guy driving a mid 2000’s Rover and think he’s rich? Just shows owner is irresponsible with money while going further into debt just keeping it running. Gotta toss on some gaudy chrome wheels with gold accents too.

OP I’m not in any way implying this is you lol. Just whenever I’m in the NE these things are literally as common as a Camry.
Bigger question is why does anyone own a German/English vehicle out of warranty?

Because they can often barely afford it off warranty, it’s in “more than you can afford pal” territory for brand new.

From the German side - what American / Japanese sedans can you get that are any fun?

English side - there is absolutely no reason

For the record, my vehicle also came from that region and I have little doubt it will end up in that region. No surprise there.

You aren't wrong. For many, I think their vehicle purchase is primarily driven by brand and how that brand makes them look to others. Or, more specifically, how they THINK it makes them look... even though anybody who actually cares doesn't exactly tend to view an old European brand as baller like they think.

SO, latest update: LR tells me now that the NEW starter they installed arrived faulty, and there are no more available in Canada. It will take a month for another to arrive. This is an especially fun revelation, as we had a road trip booked in 2 weeks and I kinda needed an SUV for that.

Do you still have your old starter? You could definitely get that rebuilt in a week. @BerserkerCatSplat recommended a good place but the name is slipping my mind.

They have it. I suppose that'd be an option (thanks for the suggestion) though the last thing I want to add to the mix is a crappy rebuild and more problems. If it was winter this would be a real problem, but for now I'll just drive the Jaguar. I found a minivan to borrow for my trip, luckily.

This is your smartest move yet in this thread. Last thing you wanna be doing is taking an unreliable vehicle on a road trip.

Isn't it interesting that when you own an image vehicle, you have to borrow a sensible backup vehicle in case you need to drive somewhere?

(WTF am I talking about, my car doesn't even like to idle.)

Exactly the reason that Riander mentioned. if I want something that is enjoyable to drive realistically the only SUV fit the box was the Cayenne (personally) - I realize I might get a big bill sometime, have buffer set up for it and get a crazy amount of joy every time I get in and drive it. *knocks on wood* probably the most enjoyable purchase I have ever made. Still cheaper than a car payment on a Rav4.

Amperage Tech is the place, Dave is the man. If the parts are available, they'll do a better rebuild than whatever sweatshop put the RockAuto unit together.

don't be scared of rebuilt starters or alternators. A good rebuild is as reliable as new.
