Default Gap in shower. Modular header of some sort.

My new girlfriend just bought a place (hell I might make this my own thread). I saw it for the first time. I noticed the two showers have this lego like modular ceiling.
My concern is moisture or water going in the gap.
I have never seen anything like this and it could be nothing. But should I plug the gap with some sort of sealant..? Is this normal..?
(I'l post pictures from my phone in a bit)

Thats normal. Its likely a retrofit shower surround where it can be used with or without the roof. There will be a ~1-1.5" lip from the bottom piece going up that the top piece slides onto (or would go under the tile if no roof)so that if any water gets in there has nowhere to go. They also design them so the mating surfaces has a slight downward slope back into the shower should water get splashed up there which isn't likely to occur given the height. There is no need to seal it but if it makes you feel better you can run a small bead of silicone in it. One of those squeeze tubes should be plenty.
